Dear SAWMA community,

We are very excited to share the First Announcement and Call for Abstracts for the SAWMA 2026 conference with you! See the attached document for more information. The submissions portal for abstracts will open on 2 March on the Conference Website. Registration will open later in March. You may start booking your accommodation at Cradle Moon Lakeside Game Lodge by 2 March.

I have also attached a document, SAWMA 2026 themes explained, for further clarification.

Main Theme: Beyond Numbers: Clarifying the Goals of Wildlife Management and Conservation

Sub-Themes:

•             Multiple values of wildlife: ecological, social, cultural, and economic

•             Conservation genetics, connectivity, and population dynamics in a fragmented world

•             Wildlife management in human-dominated and mixed-use systems

•             Ethics, responsibility, and legitimacy in wildlife interventions

•             Doing the Work: Practical tools, trade-offs, and implementation realities

We also want to take the opportunity to call on new and previous sponsors for support for our conference. The success and affordability of the event depend heavily on your support! See the attached Call for Support document.

Please visit the Conference Website for regular updates.

Please feel free to share this far and wide!

Kind regards,

Elma Marais
