I've been receiving reports from users who upgraded to Mavericks that Savings sometimes hang while entering transaction, requiring them to force quit the program. While it's becoming clear that this is indeed a problem, I am having a hard time producing the problem on my own machine. So quick question for you guys:

1. Are you on Mavericks and Savings works without a problem?

2. If you do observe this problem, is there a series of steps that could produce this problem reliably?

Thanks for your attention.

Hi Yi.  Yes, I've noticed this behavior since upgrading to Mavericks.  I've only had to force quit once.  More frequently what I see is the app hang for a few seconds when I tab from Amount to Category and start typing the category I want.  The hang is when the category is populating.

Thanks, that seems to be what most people are reporting. Will do more debugging.

Hi Yi Lin,

I use your wonderful program weekly for my home budget and just upgraded to Mavericks 2 weeks ago.  Last week, Savings hung once forcing a restart and this week it hung twice forcing restarts both times.  Each time it has occurred exactly the same as Brad describes, when moving to populate the category, you can type in a few letters & it begins to populate, then the whole program hangs.

Thanks,
Frank

Hi Frank,

Here is a beta build of Savings that fixes the instability problem:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/57008811/Savings%201.6.1b.zip

I'll be submitting this to the App Store if I don't receiving any bug reports within the next few days.

Hi Yi,

Thanks for sending.  I've updated the program & will try it later this weekend.

Thanks again,
Frank

I have been using Savings for about a week n ow and really like it especially the simplicity of it. The one thing I am missing that I was using in a previous program is the auto add payee. I see categories have it, but I miss payees.

Arnon,

Yes that will be coming to the app. In fact, it has been added to an iPhone version of the app that is currently being “previewed” (http://savingsapp.com/blog/18-savings-iphone-preview-v1-6). So the logic is there, just need to replicate it to the Mac version.

But all of my focus now is on getting cloud-based synchronization to work between the Mac and iPhone app, and after that I will begin to address these missing features.

I have Mavericks and I think I've encountered a hang-up problem only once.  It has not happened recently.  The one time I had the problem I just closed out of the program and reopened it, and it was fine after that.

Have you updates to the latest version via App Store? In the latest version there should be no hang.

I checked the app store and it shows Savings as downloaded, so to the best of my knowledge I have the latest version (I would have done this in December, I think, at the latest because I was out of the country January through April).

It is indeed a problem for me too since I updated to mavericks. In fact it hangs all the time when entering new scheduled transactions and when setting up a budget. I had to quit and can't really use it at the moment. I always have the projection turned on, that might be a problem.

I'm on Mavericks and experiencing no problems for a long time. I doubt that helps anyone.

Hi Marina,

Sorry about the late response. But this problem is fixed with update 1.6.1 of Savings (http://savingsapp.com/release_notes), make sure you are running that version by selecting Savings > About from the menu. There is also a new update (1.6.2) that contains fixes for the latest OS X (Yosemite). So I would recommend you to just go to the Mac App Store and update to the latest version of Savings.

Thanks,
Yi
