Hi --

Based on a discussion with Doug Bogatz earlier this week, we're
starting a thread to a) see who's reading this and b) brainstorm and
implement some ideas to maintain and improve field conditions at Iris
fields. These fields are used by both NBLL and Bison players. As
you know, these are county fields which don't get much maintenance
other than mowing and occasional weekly trash removal from the
count. The fields need more regular maintenance and trash removal.

What ideas do you have for improving maintenance?

What can be done to implement your ideas?

I'd like to say do what ever they do at the fields outside of Boulder
such as the Longmont Sand Creek facility. Generally speaking Iris is
in the best shape of all our NBLL fields obviously. I think our
pitching mounds could use some rehab work. Last time I looked it
seemed like the area in front of the rubber has a big pot hole. The
same applies to the areas around the bases. It would be nice to see
the fields get thouroughly dragged to remove the weeds and soften them
up. Perhaps they need some additional surface material but I'm not an
expert on that. Perhaps we could canvas our membership to see if
there are any landscape operators that could provide some equipment/
labor in exchange for banner placement/team sponsorship???

My suggestions would be:
1) Fix up the pitcher mounds to get rid of the pot holes in front of
the rubber
2) Fix up the base paths to remove the pot holes in front of the
bases (2nd and 3rd)
3) Drag the infields thourghly to get rid of the weeds and soften
them up (perhaps add more dirt material if needed). Create a crisp
border between the infield and outfield
4) It would be nice to see the grass get some attention to thicken it
up

In my mind I'm picturing fields that are on par with the Sandstone
Ranch in Longmont. Could we solicit NBLL members who own a
landscaping business that would be interested in loaning equipment to
do some work in exchange for advertising and team sponsorship. If
they were really generous perhaps we could display their name
prominently on our website and on a plaque on the fields for the year.

Hi Kent, Thanks for sending out your E-mail regarding the maintenance and improvements of the Iris Fields. I'm planning on being at the Iris Fields this Saturday from 9-1 and could use some help with the following improvement projects:

Cleaning out dugouts.
Raking up dead grass and leaves.
Removing weeds from 4 bullpen pitching mounds and staining wood frames.
General weed wacking
Remove trash from Iris ditch.
Priming and paint touch up of some bleacher boards
Painting exterior of golf cart equipment shed where needed.

Please RSVP to d1bo...@aol.com so we know how many people to expect.

Thanks and any help is appreciated,
Doug, Iris Fields Caretaker
