The facts remain the same regarding the Iris Fields Facility maintenance and upkeep:
Trash system is being handled poorly (neighbors are complaining)
Entire recycling Program is being serviced at best by 2  of us. (needs more volunteers)
The 7 acre Iris Park should be cleaned up and maintained at least once a week. (that's why it's called maintenance)
Iris Ditch should be cleaned out once a week.
Should not be content with just having the park look nice.

Subject: RE: Equipment Shed & Safety Cones;

Thanks, Doug.  Brendan reminded everyone in the minors again earlier this week about closing up, and I will be sure to remind the Majors guys as well.  I believe I was actually the last person out there last night, so I will take the blame for that one.  So did Kent close up the shed last night but leave the cones out overnight?  That seems odd.  I will clean out the equipment and umpire gear in the shed- sorry for the inconvenience.  I know Chris is on top of the EcoCycle issue, and I can ask for volunteers to help with that in the next community email if he would like.

I appreciate that you’re frustrated, but I think I did respond to you several times that we don’t feel it’s appropriate to keep emailing people to do cosmetic and other improvements at Iris when a) we have done so several times already and very few have come, b) Iris looks great as everyone can attest, and c) there is much to be done at other fields.  You are correct that I did not respond last week when you asked the same question again, and for that I apologize….I am just a little behind with the critical things that must be done on a daily basis, like rescheduling games due to weather problems and making sure umpires show up.  We did discuss your request at the board meeting this week, and the board agreed that we do not want to send any additional emails to the community about Iris clean-up days in the near future.

We have asked the coaches to be more diligent about cleaning up dugouts after games, and if you feel we need additional help with picking up random litter, etc. perhaps we should investigate having the jail crew come out as we have done in years past.  We truly appreciate all that you do, and I’m sorry that we aren’t giving you the support you feel Iris needs, but that’s where we are right now.

Just received a phone message that last night once again the 16th Street Equipment Shed door was left open, the light was left on and the safety cones were left out over night.  Kent Dinkel was nice enough to take care of this last night and also several times in the past.   Would be helpful to again send out a reminder that the last teams to leave the Iris fields, to please take care of those items. There's a lot of team equipment and umpire equipment that's ended up mixed together and piled up in the front left hand corner of the 16th Street Shed, that could use some sorting and organizing along with a better system.  Do we have a Head Umpire that should be contacted to take care of this?  Our 3rd Ecocycle pick up of the season takes place May 14th. The plastic bottles that have been collected in the smaller containers will have to be emptied into the 2 large containers and set out for pick up.  This needs to take place every 2 weeks throughout the season.  We end up collecting and recycling around 3,500 gallons of plastic bottle every season at the Iris Facility alone!  Having a scheduled group of volunteers to provide this service would be helpful.

Also, knowing that everyone's been very busy and having not heard back from Leslie or Chris yet, I thought I would put out the following to all of the BOD's:  We are in need of a consistent group effort and turnout for the Maintenance and upkeep for all of our facilities.  Would appreciate the following request and list be sent out to the NBLL community regarding an Iris Fields Clean Up/Improvements day for this Saturday from 9-1.  In the past we've been able to accomplish in a safe manner a lot of work even though the games are going on.  There have been more compliments regarding the condition and improvements of the Iris Fields then ever before.  Thanks to all of you for being a big part of making that happen!

Could Use Some Help With The Following Iris Fields Maintenance And Improvement Projects:
Cleaning out dugouts.
Raking up dead grass and leaves.
Removing weeds from bullpen mounds and staining wood frames.
General weed wacking.
Removal of trash from Iris Ditch. ( this should be done on a weekly basis)
Some of the trash cans are already full and need to be emptied.
Priming and painting of some bleacher boards. (Especially the one's on the SE LL Field 3rd base line)
Paint touch up for exterior of golf cart equipment shed where needed.

Please RSVP to d1bo...@aol.com so we know how many people to expect.

Thanks and any help is appreciated,
Doug, Iris Fields Caretaker
