Subject: [Varthur Lake@WR:] NIP Challenge - Both our proposals got shortlisted....and we need help!
Hello Team,
Just wanted to share the good news with you that both the proposals we submitted for the NIP Challenge have been shortlisted.
For those of you new to the team, NIP Challenge is sponsored by United Laboratories and provides up to RS 15 lakhs per selected project (and has a total budget to fund Rs. 1 crore in projects).
We submitted the following proposals - both of which have been shortlisted!
1. Varthur Scorecard Monitor written by Rohit Krishnam
This is a public forum (both online and physical) that measures water pollution levels at set points on Lake Varthur and consistently reports that data. Essentially creates a Water Quality Index for Lake Varthur. Since data is collected, analyzed and reported every quarter, we will have a tool that reports changes in pollution levels and trends. This is a tool for building public awareness and increasing public interest in OUR lake.
2. Finding the Facts behind Varthur's Foam written by Murali Govindarajalu and Meha Senthil
This is a proposal to fund the technical surveys and field analysis needed to jumpstart conversations as to how best to improve Lake Varthur. Rejuvenating Lake Varthur is a multi-year project that will cost Tens/Hundreds of Crores of Rupees. This proposal asks for the lakhs of Rupees needed to get the data that will help to make good decisions about the lake.
The next stage in the Challenge is to meet with the organizers on August 1st. Time and location to be determined in the next couple of days.
Please read the attached proposals and let me know if you would like to join us in moving this forward. We very sincerely need your help moving this forward.
Thanks, Meha Senthil
