Hi Everyone,

Its really Sad to see that the lake has completely disappeared and turned into a green bog. I don't know how long its needs to remain like this to be certified dead lake and then be used for whatever.

The group especially Gopal, Kapil Dipankar have however kept up the activities which give a bit of relief and distract us from the pitiable condition of lake. Thanks for this!

There were few things which I think we correctly identified and should take action. Getting rid of weeds was the most urgent point and lets address it. We should start collecting money from willing people. Also I have no idea how much needs to be raised for this. Gopal / Dipankar will you have any dea how much will it cost for Forest Department to take the weeds out from the lake? I am ready to help in any way possible, its just that I don't know where to get the boats from and just start getting that green marsh cleared up and look like a lake.

Also we have gathered quite a no of things like funds allocated for the lake under LDA and STP etc on emails also talks about water to be released into lake I would propose we meet again and discuss this face to face along with fixing a way to get the contribution started for cleanup

regards

All,
  • Yes, the lake is getting from bad to worse.
  • It has become a sewage pond and no more a lake.
  • I experience the stink whenever wind blows over the lake towards Rohan Vasantha (where I stay)
  • We should delink this matter from the associations/societies of the apartment complexes.
  • Like-minded people who care for the environment should join and take action.
  • This group should meet Mr.Yellappa Reddy in his office; put forth our concerns and seek a out-of-the-box solution.
  • We must have a formal structure.
  • Can we not mobilise a hundred residents from Rohan Vasantha and Purva Reviera towards this worthy cause?
  • We should meet soon.
Regards
Gopal
P.S: I will not be in town during the coming weekend 7 and 8 March 2009. Others can meet and take decisions. Or we can meet on weekdays at around 8pm or so. Request the moderator of this egroup to take a decision.

I came to Riviera last year in Feb. When I stepped into my balcony, I first thought that there is a barren ground behind the complex. It was only towards the end of March'08 when I realized that it was not a ground but a lake. This was when the weeds started disappearing. Then gradually towards the end of monsoon the lake was completely visible.
The current state of the lake is exactly how it looked last year in Feb/March. Moral of the story is that its still not too late. The lake will be visible back again (hopefully :-) )

Lets meet tomorrow for some time and see when we can meet next and convert our discussions to fruitful actions.
