Dear Arati,
We had a meeting of the ANIT team on Sun to discuss about various development ideas and ways to go about it. The attached document gives outline of BDA's rejuvenation plan. Let me first share some of the ideas that may be considered. However, the current lake status requires changes to plan, additional cost for laying pipes carrying STP treated water from nearby apartments and also cost overrun requires cutting down few facilities (unless addressed in other ways)
- A small children play area - It is part of original DPR from BDA adjacent to BG road at wetland pond 1. In the current state of lake, this is not feasible. It can be done much better in the space between pond 1 and pond 3.
- A park with open space as a green belt, garden, flowers and benches for resting in the space between pond 1 and pond 3.
- Alternatively, one can also create an amphi-theatre in place of park, as proposed above.
- A corpus fund for conducting small environmental programs like waste mgmt, gardening, sustainable living, painting / cum drawing for children, plays / competition for children etc. This will immensely help ANIT in involving local residents, creating awareness and active community engagement.
- Laying of water pipe for carrying STP water from apartments on north of lake (as shown in the ppt). In addition, it should also be done on south side from Meenakshi mall and Mantri Pinnacle (not proposed in the ppt).
- Toilet facilities on NW and SW corner of lake, run and maintained by Sulabh Sauchalaya.
I find option 3 and 4 to be most beneficial from benefit to public and for local community. However, we are yet to discuss these suggestions with BDA who has to approve and should also be involved in design. We plan to visit them sometime this week and will keep you updated.
It will help us a lot to get your initial feedback to refine these ideas better.
Regards,
Arbind
