Dear all,
Here's an update on our visit to BDA on Mon 14th Mar.
Arbind Gupta, VandanaR, Asha Nayak(from Kalenagrahara Lake B'ghatta rd) and myself went to meet Mr. Shivshankar, engineer officer of BDA in charge of lakes. He had give us an appointment at 3.30pm, but turned up only at 4.30pm from another meeting!
We briefed him about our involvement with the BDA officials, DC office and various other organizations for the past 3 years in an attempt to get the lake revived. We reminded him how Initially BDA cooperated with us, but when the work started suddenly in feb 2014 we were not even informed, but when we met them they were still sharing the information with us and would always say they needed our continuous cooperation. But since Feb 2015 when the work was supposed to be over and the lake ready for public, their junior engineers started putting us off, they were not ready to share any information, instead they failed to recognize us as citizen representatives, saying they are answerable to only one person from the citizen group!! We also informed him how we collected thousands of signature from people staying in and around lake for a campaign to save the lake, formed human chain, organized meetings etc. .People are demanding to know what happened to know the status.
With this background we demanded that-- ANIT be recognized as citizen representative and that BDA should share all the information , call us for meetings etc and we submitted another set of signatures which we had collected over the past months from various apartments around arakere.
We also wanted to know why the work has been delayed for more than a year and sewage still not diverted, encroachments not removed fully.
Mr. Shivshankar has promised full cooperation with us where sharing of the information is considered. He immediately called his new junior eng. Ms Sumathi on the phone and asked her to give us all the info.
He told us that because of delay by BWSSB in diverting sewage inflow into the lake they have stopped the work temporarily.BDA has written several letters to the BWSSB , and the DC office. We asked him to share the copy of these letters. The copy of their letter to the DC office was given to us immediately, and the BWSSB one to be collected from B"shankari office from Sumati.
He said the BWSSB chief engineer has promised to complete (??) the work in a month's time. He seeked our cooperation to chase them !
He also advised us to be in the watchdog committee formed by pollution control board which is monitoring the sewage and other issues polluting the lakes. They call regular meetings.
Asha Nayak also submitted a letter stating the deterioration of kalenagrahara lake which needs urgent attention!
Today we are planning to go to BDA Banashankari office to meet Sumathi.
