The WRVU Executive staff met with the VSC board this evening to
discuss a lot of the issues behind the proposed sale of the station,
and it was very productive. Nothing much got done, but we did have a
chance to show the board our thoughts on reasoning behind the proposed
sale as well as hear their rebuttals.
What did get done was that the board agreed to not sell the station
until after January 12th, 2011. Since we're all students and have
been working around the clock to help save the station, we needed some
assurance that we could take a break for our own lives and the station
would not be immediately sold. The members of the board all wanted to
express that their decision doesn't mean that they will sell the
station immediately after January 12th, and that in fact nothing was
realistically going to happen before next semester anyway. However, I
think that this promise by the board gives us time to focus on more
substantive opposition, as well as take some time to attend to our own
otherwise busy schedules with the guarantee that we do have until next
semester before anything will happen. We don't plan on wasting the
time that we have been given,
One question that the board raised during the meeting that I don't
feel was ever answered to their satisfaction was this: Will the
student learning experience diminish with a transition to an online
stream, and how? I would like to put a document together to submit to
the board answering this question, and I think that our staff members
would have excellent views on the subject. Please give me your best
answers to the question, and I'll make sure that the board hears our
answer.
Thanks,
Mikil
