I was looking over the VSC bylaws last night and got interested in
what exactly what happen should the Board in fact decide to sell the
license and move WRVU to online-only status.

The procedure for how a division (WRVU, the Hustler, Orbis, etc.) may
be shut down is outlined, but it appears to apply specifically to a
case where the division has performed unacceptably in some way. A two-
thirds vote is required to terminate the division. Nothing seems to
address a case in which the Board decides to shut down a division so
that the other divisions can feed on its carcass. Would that decision
require a two-thirds vote? It seems to me that depends partly on
whether moving WRVU to online-only would be seen as shutting down a
division. I imagine the Board would say no, but I certainly would say
yes. Online-only format is a whole different communication medium
from broadcast format, and certainly is not seen as an acceptable
trade by the students who work at WRVU. The license and equipment do
belong to VSC, so possibly the board could simply sell the license and
equipment and tell WRVU to try to continue as a division without
them. Is that something that could happen? If these questions have
been covered previously, I have forgotten or I missed it.

Here is a link to the bylaws:

The procedure for censuring or terminating a division that "appears to
be incapable of fulfilling
its goals and responsibilities" is in Article V, section 3 (page
3-4).
