Hi everyone. Hope you all had a relaxing summer holiday. It's back
to normality now with the start of the new academic year.

In today's newsletter, Mr McAteer stated that "the uncertainty
regarding the future of the school has been removed". He expressed
similar, though apparently not quite so definite, sentiments at the
end of last term when addressing new parents.

Welcome as this is, others don't see it as quite so cut and dried.
Diana Coad, the Tory PPC for Slough at the last election, made
enquiries on my behalf and received a response from Jonathan Hill
(Baron Hill of Oareford, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for
Schools), dated 22 June.

He said that although the Expression of Interest for the academy
proposals had been received in the department it had not yet been
considered by Ministers. He went on to say that they would need to
consider not only the merits of the project but also take a view on
how the proposal would fit in with education provision locally.

There was an article shortly before the end of term by James Taylor in
the Slough Observer. He too was told by the DfE that the EoI hadn't
yet been considered by Ministers.

On 6 August the DfE published a list of sample schools and academy
projects that would be going ahead. There were no schools on the list
from Slough. Could this have been the last chance for the Catholic
Academy?

I've just emailed the DfE to ask about the status of the EoI.

Has anyone heard anything recently?

I hope Mr McAteer is right.   Interesting to read that an organisation (The Childcare Company) from Langley has got the go ahead to create a Primary School in Slough and are currently looking for sites..    That's probably where the money has gone !!!

Regards

Yvonne

I think that the references that Paul quotes predate the Academies Act
2010 becoming law on 28? July. Now that the new procedure in that Act
is available, I would think that no NEW authorisations under the OLD
procedure will be provided. There was a group of approvals of
projects in the pipeline at the time of the General Election, as well
as the 32 outstanding school approvals that are to open this month.

The new procedure does not appeal to the Church authorities because of
the issue of asset transfers, so it does look to me as if there is no
open route to academy status available now for St.B's.

EoIs are part of the old procedure, so it seems to me that the St.B's
EoI is due for a trip to the shredder.

Hi Tracey

Would you mind letting us know what the Prents Forum does?

The best way to describe it would be like a school council for parents.
We meet usually twice a term and discuss ways parents can help the
school or ways the school can help and communicate with parents for the
benefit of the students.

We've been involved with projects such as improvements to the website
and the re-establishment of the Duke of Edinburgh scheme.

With best wishes
