A frined whose son goes to Dr Challoners Grammar School in Amersham has
received a letter from the school about it becoming an academy. A parents
meeting is planned.I have not seen the letter as this was during a
phonecall last night so do not have any further information but my friend
said it sounded as if it was a done deal.

The text of that letter would be most welcome.
Bearing in mind that the Bill in Parliament is still in its initial
stages and is in nowhere near its final form, I do not see how the
governors can have such total confidence that this is something they
should get involved in and try to sell to parents.

Some saying about fools rushing in where angels fear to tread springs to mind.

Another sort of parental ballot.

Dr Challoner's poised to help save schools
Mar 3 2010 By Hannah Williams, Buckinghamshire Examiner

DR CHALLONER'S Grammar School could take over another school to
improve standards after being named by the government as a 'trusted
provider' of education.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown and schools secretary Ed Balls announced
the school in Chesham Road, Amersham as one of 13 'accredited schools'
last week.

This means it could be asked by a local authority to step in to run a
school which needs rapid improvement, or instructed to by the
government.

Where a group of parents at another school say they are dissatisfied
with its leadership, the local authority will ballot all parents on
whether they want to bring in an accredited school to turn things
around. ....
