"The Northamptonshire Diocese ... have now officially withdrawn the
Expression of Interest ... regarding the potential merger of St
Bernard's and St Joseph's. This means that Governors can now plan for
the future of the school and in due course they will be contacting
parents with regards to fund raising and improving the provision for
students."
Wonderful News! We can now enjoy Christmas! I also want to express big thanks to Tony, Paul Welsh and Paul Dodgshun for their hard work and commitment to ‘our cause’!!! You guys kept us believing and hoping.....
Three cheers!!!!!!!!
Warm wishes to all of you
Luisa

Hooray -- happy Christmas!!
A particular heartfelt thank you to Tony and the Pauls and all who so meticulously
and diligently worked for this result. It has been a brilliant campaign with all credit
to the power of parents.
Best wishes to all,
Susy and family

I think that while we were certainly a thorn in the side of those
behind this plan, the main reason it failed was the decision of the
coalition government to refuse funding. Whether that refusal was
anything other than an economic decision, who knows?
I'd like to thank the parent governors, all of whom are on the
Executive Committe of FaCT, namely Tony O'Shea (Chairman of FaCT), Pat
McGill and Chris Beer. Can anyone really imagine that the governors
would have rejected the EoI by an overwhelming 17 votes to 1 were it
not for their superb powers of persuasion?
I'd also like to thank Nick Seaton, Chairman of the Campaign for Real
Education and Paul Dodgshun for their invaluable advice.
In terms of parents with children currently in Year 6 who applied to
St Bernard's, Mr McAteer has been saying for some time that he thought
the merger wouldn't go ahead, so presumably those parents will check
before making a final decision. Of course, though, they have already
made their preferences.
Unfortunately, what the last two years has shown very clearly is that
the Diocese is no friend of St Bernard's so we must stay on our guard
against any attempt to drop academic selection. Perhaps the Diocese
is about to launch plan B?
Expect to see a number of the older teaching staff retire soon. I
imagine that some, quite understandably, will have been postponing
retirement in case they had the good fortune to supplement their lump
sum with a redundancy payment.
I propose keeping this mailing list and the web site going.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
Paul

That is what I call a real Xmas present.
I would like to thank those who gave me a mention in dispatches; it is
very much appreciated.
I have no idea what will happen next but I doubt that it will be nothing!
Best Wishes for Christmas and the New Year
