Dear members,
It does appear from recent articles that Grammar schools could expand under new rules. This may be great news for Grammar schools as a whole and in particular, St. Bernard’s, as investment is still required for St. Bernard’s to meet the cost of small building works and for the general upkeep of the school. If the school increased in size by one class this would provide additional future funding. It would probably not cover the costs fully for ongoing building/maintenance work but it would be a step in the right direction.

NGSA Chairman, Mr Robert McCartney commented: ‘This is a very welcome step. But it offers no solace to parents living in four fifths of the country with no grammar schools at all. Nor will it help those youngsters who have passed the voluntary 11-plus test, yet are still denied a place, even when they appeal. ’
