Dear Ms Wright, |
|
Thank you for your email dated 14 July 2010 to Secretary of State about the proposed academy in Slough. I have been asked to respond as I am the Assistant Project Lead responsible for this project. As you may know, the Sponsor and Local Authority have submitted an Expression of Interest (EoI) document which sets out the rationale for the project. If approved by Ministers this would release funding for a feasibility study to be undertaken and it is only then, and depending on the outcome of feasibility, that planning for an academy would begin. However, the Government’s capital investment for the proposed academy project has been stopped, and any decision relating to the funding of capital investment nationally will be contained in the Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR) later this year. The Sponsors have indicated to the Department that they will wish to pursue the idea of an academy in Slough should the capital investment funding become available. I understand your concerns but, at this stage, it would be premature to form views and opinions before the EoI is approved or the outcome of the CSR is known. I can assure you that there will be ample opportunity to express your views if the Sponsors decide to go ahead with the project after the CSR decisions. |
