The new District boundaries are posted on the district website - http://www.cypsd.k12.ca.us/School_Closure.htm

What does all this mean as far as kindergarten class sizes? How much
will they increase?

The school closures don't affect class size. But as the District works at reducing their budget, they may increase class sizes to reduce the number of teachers.

So stay tuned to the Board meetings for the next couple of months, where they will make those decisions.

Well put...staff reduction may seem inevitable. I agree that its important to stay informed during this transitional time. Along with keeping up with the Board Meetings we all should visit the district websites for new updates, pay close attention to the material sent home in the communication packets and get involved with our school.

Parent involvement is a crucial factor to the future of our school. This involvement can come at all levels, from becoming an active parent in the PTA as I have to volunteering time to simple tasks that can be accomplished from home or work. The simple tasks would be the passive fundraisers like Brain Power Mania...if 50 parents would take the "tell a friend" approach and have at least five friends or family members sign up, the points totals would jump 250,000 points. The sign up only takes 1 minute.

I am seeing at all levels of public education system that it is no longer free. (It never was but…) There is an increasing need to raise money at school level to maintain quality education because districts can’t afford to provide even some basic things schools need. This is becoming a serious issue. If there is enough committed parents/community members, establishing a non-profit foundation for Luther might be one way to deal with this issue.

Hey Steve...you are right, its a serious issue at hand. We have a small group of parents already doing the research on a non-profit foundation. If anyone has experience in the grounds works of creating a non profit, please send me an email.

I have been (& still am) serving as president of Oxford Academy Foundation for last few years. It took a lot of work to get to where we are but we raised almost $70,000 last year. Give me a call. I can help you guys to get it established and get it going.
