to Save Lyon-Martin Fundraising Working Group
Hello to All,

If we can jointly and very quickly tie up all the loose ends of the
dining out for Lyon Martin event and put together a blurb with all
four participating restaurants, their address (perhaps with a google
map link included), contact information, the times and dates for each
restaurant, and a statement to the effect that these events are for
the benefit of Lyon-Martin, I could very likely have ongoing event
notices published on SF Gate, the SF Weekly and the Bay Guardian for
the month of June. We would need to get this out in the next several
days for the SF Weekly in order to cover the first "diner date" in
that publication or website. We would also need to get the blurb with
the above information on the SLM and LM facebook pages along with the
LM Website since links to at least one of our sites would be included
in the event notices of the above mentioned media.

I hate to put a rush on this project or pressure on everyone but I
just discovered the turn around times and rough deadlines to get this
information transmitted in time for publication. These media portals
would be great outreach for these events. Feedback and help getting
this accomplished as soon as possible will definitely be appreciated.

Sorry for the pressure cooker everyone,
Nikki

Thank you, Nikki, for doing that- this is EXACTLY what we need. I need to check in with Lex again re: the logo, as they haven't gotten back to me on it; unfortunately, they've been dealing with some medical stuff lately but that is over now, so I'm hoping they will be more ready to engage with things like this.

As for others, I am happy to meet up with folks (Cheryl, Christine, Kara?) to craft some of the language if need be.

Thanks,

Pike

Hey Pike,

Please don't worry about a logo for these listings. We can use the logo for fliers and our face book pages and website. I'm looking at the free benefit event listings as opposed to those that can be rather costly. For example SF gate charges a one time fee of 19.95 per insertion and $1.00 per click if we use the premium listing route which allows images. This has the potential of being very expensive for a 4 week period 4x19.95 is about $80.00 plus who knows how many clicks. That's just one of the venues. SF weekly is very costly and the Bay Guardian isn't far behind if we want to submit an image. Let's try the free ones for now and we can discuss whether we want to pay for this kind of outreach for events that have a high return potential to make it worth the cost at our next meeting. The most critical thing now is the time element. We need to put this together by Monday AM at the latest for the SF weekly. We would be pressing pushing at the outer edges of the envelope if we wait much longer to submit it to them as all submissions go through editorial review and a selection committee. We have a little time latitude for the two other media media portals but they should be sent out as early as possible this week.

So all I really need for now is a  blurb with all four participating restaurants, their addresses, their contact information, their websites if they have one, the times and dates for each restaurant, our contact information, a link to google maps for each restaurant, links to SLM and LM face book page along with LM webpage and a statement to the effect that these events are for the benefit of Lyon-Martin, a non-profit community based health clinic that treats the under served population by supplying both physical and mental health care or something to this effect. Definitely make certain to mention non-profit as it will very likely be the key to entry. If you guys can get me all the information, I can put together a blurb and post it to the group for editing, comments additions or subtractions. Or I can just post it. You decide. I promise to not make any typos and make it grammatically correct. Or you can write the blurb and send it to me to submit. I THINK that have all of the other information that we need.

One other thing we might consider is to have our own website if we can find very cheap to free hosting. That way we can include images by having the link to it included in media adds.

I hope that you're enjoying the weekend.

hi!

i won't be able to meet to work on language before the events actually start, unfortunately. :(

i am waiting to hear back from Front Porch on final details, but I heard back from Pi this morning. they've decided to offer something a little different than what we first started talking about in March (a portion of the proceeds from the night) -- here are the details:

Pi Bar will donate 50% of every Liberty Ale.

Pi Bar will have a beer quiz that everyone can participate for $5, the winner will win a Pi Bar hoodie and some sort of beer swag.

Also Lyon Martin can put donation jars out.

i tried to push things back toward the %-of-proceeds idea, but i didn't make any headway, & i didn't want to push too hard, since they're basically doing us a favor, & the person i'm talking to also is the person who arranged the karaoke thing at the Dovre (she works at both places), so it just seemed better to tread lightly.

in the meantime, here is the info you requested, Nikki:

They open at 3:14 -- i'll confirm that the official event starts at that time.

Christine,
this is disappointing, but I understand about just needing to make these decisions in the midst of negotiating.

Does anyone have updates re Brenda's, Millennium and Farm : Table?

Do we need to approach Buck Tavern or another restaurant or are we fine?

Any thoughts from anyone?

Cheryl

I think it would be good to have another bar or restaurant doing something, since the money from Pi is going to be basically nil.... That's a really huge difference :(

I am going to ask my friend who used to work at QBar if they might be willing to do something for us... maybe I could ask them to donate a cut of every Tuesday in June. You never know! It's appropriate anyway since that's their 'ladies night.'

Okay, onward!

i had a date planned with Brenda's wife this past weekend but had to cancel last minute.  I will call her today.

Mitchel - can you confirm with farm:table?  i emailed kate and shannon about it a week or so ago, and i'm sure they're game, but can you get confirmation?

also, Jackson was making headway with Millennium but unfortunately, they're sous chef passed away unexpectedly this weekend.  I'm sure business will have to continue on but I'm not sure where Jackson is at in asking to move forward with it.  The manager of the restaurant is married to the sous chef - so it's all kind of a tight-knit family thing.  I know, at this point, that Jackson is putting his energy behind the memorial planning and I'm just not sure where the Lyon-Martin ask will fall in that...

i was just brainstorming with a friend about this idea, and he suggested the new place that took over bagdad cafe. we could suggest it would be good welcome to the neighborhood publicity if they can do this for us.

do you guys have a certain approach when asking, or is it just because you know people at these places?

thanks,
melyssa

Melyssa,

I think that it's more than a great idea since their business is new. I think that a new business would welcome the idea to both build up its customer base and to fill the restaurant on an off night. There is a recipe to approaching a restaurant that includes procedures and some documents for "closing the deal". It was posted on our list serve quite awhile ago. However, if your friend is comfortable with approaching the restaurant owner (whom I correctly or incorrectly assume that your friend knows) simply to see if he/she is initially receptive to the idea, it couldn't hurt. If the owner is receptive follow up can take place. I'm not sure of the exact percentage that we wanted to use as a starting negotiating point, but I think it was something like starting at 40 or 50% and settling for 20% if all else fails. I'll try to find the information that was posted. If I find it, I'll forward it to you. Also Mitchel or Kara might have the original.

Thank you for your brainstorming idea,
Nikki

sorry for being unclear. my friend does not know the owner, he merely suggested the place as an ask we can do since our other restaurants seem iffy at best right now.

the ask would be by someone (me or someone else) at SLM.

thanks,

Melyssa,

If you are comfortable with and willing to do it, please by all means go for it. The worst thing that can happen is they will say no.

hello to everyone on this thread: re: dining out for LM

I just spoke with the person who deals with events at SF Weekly and found out that we can have the event logo attached to our outreach at no additional cost. So when we have all of the restaurants lined up and the logo in jpg format together, all I need are the dates, times, addresses, websites if available, contact info and a blurb along with the logo jpg file attachment and I'll get it submitted for review and hopefully put online and in print. Please remember to mention that LM is a non-profit in the blurb. If no-one else wants to write the blurb, I'll do it.
