3/31 Meeting Notes, Next Meeting 4/6

Below are my brief notes from tonight's meeting. We will meet next week Wednesday, 4/6, 5:30 pm.

Fundraising Working Group Notes 3/30

Updated events on website

• Concert, 4/16, Location TBA
• Karaoke, 4/2, Dovre Club
• Per Corey and Kara, no immediate help needed

Cans

• Scarlet Sage was biggest donation total. Most others very small amounts.
• Is this strategy worth it for small payoff? Group moving away from for now.
• Think of other asks for businessess (Posters in window as visibility, donations, etc)
• Corey will collect cans on Sunday.

Peer fundraising

• Fundraising Working Group will pay for FirstGiving sign up cost ($300)
• Corey will be interim administrator of FirstGiving.
• Corey, Manish and Elizabeth will coordinate sign-up and permissions.
• Dropping the marathon idea for now, focus instead on other group projects (bowlathon, wii-athon, roller skating, etc)

Redistribution Fund decided not to apply as we do not meet the goals of the funders as we primarily are supporting an existing 501(c)3 organization. 

Cesar Chavez Parade and Celebration will not pursue as we have not been involved with organizing, do not want to just glop on to.

Restaurant Fundraiser

• 4/15-5/1 tentative dates for first round with $6000 goal 
• Will pursue restaurants who will give us a set percentage of total income for night. 
• Next round will pursue strategy more like SFWAR and recruiting many more restaurants over more nights.
• Christine and Cheryl following up with various restaurants. Those with contacts, please be in touch with them.
• Will need help/support with promotion of events as well

New Fundraising Ideas

• YouTube Outreach: Malychi presented idea for reaching out to youtube/vlog community via LM videos. Will write sample letter to folks and report back to group.
• Community Talent Show/Performance: Nikki will 

Fundraising Strategy

• Group agrees to move towards sustaining/growing/building language and goals rather than crisis mode save language.
• Possibly engage Facebook/larger community for naming/messaging ideas
• Need for longer term proactive fundraising strategy to reach year-end goal. Pursue opportunity for planning this with clinic/board leadership?

Clinic Update very short staffed and overwhelmed with amount of work. Try to minimize requests to staff.

Thanks Mitchel.  Can someone confirm that we are not moving forward with the SF Marathon?  I was planning on submitting the application tomorrow (that last day that it can be submitted) and if I don't have to, then sweet!

Hey Kara! Yes, it is true- we realized that the Marathon itself is not going to be that lucrative for us, since they take a massive cut of anything we raise. Please save yourself the trouble! We are going to instead focus on creating an event or multiple events that we will then have people promote through our soon-to-be FirstGiving account.

One thing that occurred to me is that with FirstGiving, I think it may even be possible for people to come up with their very own "sponsor me to do xyz" ideas, am I right? Which could be awesome; I think we should encourage people to come up with some really creative (yet genuinely lucrative) activities. Some things that immediately come to mind include hiking, bike races, or, as I mentioned in tonight's meeting, getting a gym to sponsor some kind of competition based on various fitness activities. We can also have less physical stuff like 'book-a-thons", blog-offs, cook-offs, or whatever (we even thought about hosting a programming competition for the tech folks out there) people think is fun and involves very little overhead on our part.
