should be the notes from the meeting between Elizabeth, Manish and Corey about
the firstgiving website! We officially set up an account!
Based
on the design of the firstgiving website, and Manish's
experience with using the site for fundraising, it seems the best way to use
this website is to have a large 'thon'-type event (race/walk-a-thon,
dance-a-thon, etc...), otherwise it can become very disorganized, and less
appealing to those we're asking for larger gifts (like 'major donors' and
corporations who like to give to public events where their names can be more
visible). That would affect the amount of money we could see from this.
We
had a lot of conversation about how to best use the first giving page, to make
it minimal effort, while utilizing and pooling resources to make it
worthwhile. Pulling from a previous conversation at a fundraising working
group meeting, we know a few ideas were thrown around regarding larger events
such as walk/race, bowlathon, etc. When we looked at the timeline of when
this could feasibly happen, and what would need to be planned in that time
frame, we realized that we don't have much time if we want it to be well
organized and thoughtful about this.
In order to maximize the potential donations through the firstgiving website,
we realized that some concrete decisions needed to be made:
-What
large event do we want to host?
-What
should be the new name of the group so we can get a logo designed and up on the
firstgiving page?
Based
on timing, we thought a mid-September would be the best month to have this
event. We wanted to run this date by the fundraising group.
There
are other decisions that need to be made but these were the ones that if we
wait until the next meeting (which is now every other week), some critical time
could be lost in getting this process started. It will also allow us to
go to this Thursday's meeting with a clear idea around the direction we want to
take with this. If we could please start this conversation now and have
concrete decisions before our April 20th meeting, that would be great!
