I am about to add a couple more, very pertinant comments about woodland to the website ks0001 comment page

here they are.....in case you've yet to put your comments in.

The revised ancient woodland inventory (which will be published in a few months) uses the County Series Epoch 1 maps, which clearly shows the tree-lined ancient road passing through KS0001 with contiguous woodland within and/or between the fields along its length. That means that that road and woodland each side of it will now be classed as ancient woodland. PPW is very clear: 'Ancient and semi-natural woodlands are irreplaceable habitats of high biodiversity value which should be protected from development that would result in significant damage.'  In addition to the tree-lined bridleway being protected in itself, the KS0001 fields north of that route will be unable to be developed without breaching that ancient woodland strip.

Swansea Council has the whole of Clyne Valley Country Park in a current Woodland Grant Scheme. On their map, SK0001 comes within regions 7a and 11a. Residential development would go against the agreed management plan, in particular: '
long term vision for Clyne Country Park: to maximise recreational opportunities....through the improvement of site biodiversity .........develop the educational, heritage, health and sporting benefits ........whilst safeguarding native fauna and flora and protecting the landscape value. .....To improve visitor experience, management will seek to improve woodland structure and biodiversity through the control of threats, the planting of new areas of native woodland and the maintenance of existing stands. ......Paths through the woodland will be upgraded and extended.....All native veterans will be protected and preserved.....'

Carrie
Very interesting. Is the ancient woodland assessment being done by CCS, CCW or have  consultants been commissioned?

well, it took me a time to find out....all the stuff on provisional woodland inventory for England was easily available online....but googling for Wales drew blanks.
Eventually CCW said they thought it was the forestry commission drawing up the inventory.   YES....I was helped by someone there who not only sent map of the current designation, but also explained the change about to take place that will include much more woods as ancient since the 2005 provisional inventory (that CCS now work from).....but then ashe lso came up with the gem of info about CCS recieving the woodland grant.
If full info about either things are of use to you and CVCP David, I'd be happy to email the original stuff from which I distilled the 2 comments.

This looks interesting Carrie.

Also, ref. closing date on Friday, I notice it says on the council website
"Consultation ends: 30/09/2011 11:59 AM", so it closes in the morning by the look of it.

Cheers, Nesta

phew, Nesta, you're eagle-eyed, well done......I had no idea.
I'll update the website now....well actually I will only update the home page, and hope people read that bit.

I'll be downloading the online petition at 9am on friday so only signatures on there by then will be included, although I will keep the petition open with a comment re the 'deadline' having been missed for at least the 1st stage.
