UPDATE
NEW RESTORATION STATUS

There has been much news about a new ACCJC policy creating a new status called “restorationwhich could possibly give CCSF up to two more years to come into compliance with accreditation standards. However, the devil is in the details and this option may not be a good one for many reasons:

  • The accreditation status of this restoration option is “accredited, pending termination” which does not fall into one of the three official DOE categories. It will likely be interpreted as "not accredited." The status should simply be “accredited”.
  • The name “restoration” does not accurately reflect the status of the institution. It implies that accreditation has been lost which is not the case. A more accurate term is “contingent.”
  • The new policy needs to state explicitly that being under restoration does not deny an institution its legal rights.

The policy is not yet official and ACCJC is accepting public comment until June 25th at 5:00 p.m.

UPDATE
APPELLATE PANEL DECISION ON CCSF

The appellate panel for ACCJC rendered their decision on CCSF’s appeal. They directed the Commission to consider evidence up to May 21, 2014 in evaluating whether or not CCSF accreditation should be terminated.
.
It is of concern that t
he timeline is unspecified and the Commission is not required to appoint a neutral evaluation team. In fact, they are given "sole discretion" in the process and the final determination.

OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE INPUT TO CCSF CHANCELLOR
Chancellor Tyler is encouraging input from the broad CCSF community – students, faculty, classified staff, administrators, and community members – via a website for suggestions. Give it a try! Your communication can be anonymous but beware that there is a very restrictive 256-character limit.

.
Some suggestions for your input:

  • Ask the chancellor to support bringing the democratically elected Board of Trustees back.
  • Ask the chancellor to be open and transparent with the process and documents CCSF will be submitting to ACCJC to show compliance.
  • Ask the chancellor to communicate to ACCJC that the new restoration status is not acceptable as written.

.

BOARD OF GOVERNORS MEETING
Mark your calendar to attend the California Community Colleges Board of Governors meeting July 7-8 in Sacramento. We expect that the CCSF Board of Trustees/Special Trustee with Extraordinary Powers will be on the agenda since the suspension of CCSF Board of Trustees was stipulated for one year and that time is now up.
When the
agenda is set we will be coordinating a delegation to attend on the appropriate day (either the Monday, June 7th or Tuesday, June 8th).

We will ask for the following:

  • We ask that the BOG implement a process to restore our democratically elected BOT.
  • We ask that the BOG remove the ACCJC monopoly for California Community Colleges.
.
.
NON BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING
The regularly scheduled Board Agenda (for STWEP to consider) is Thursday, June 26th.
Public Comment will likely be accepted once again in MUB 140 at 4:00 pm.
