Criminal Justice: An Introduction is a comprehensive book written by Frank Schmalleger. It is designed to be an introduction text in the study of this American criminal justice system. There have only been eight revisions with the current fourth edition being published in 2021.

The book is published by Prentice Hall and Pearson Education along with fifty-two pages of endnotes. It also includes nine chapters dealing with crimes, the penal system, corrections, crime victimology, law enforcement, the court system, prosecutors and judges, the media and offender education.

The main focus of this book is on the part of politicians, the legal system, law enforcement officials, the media and the individual who has been accused of criminal behavior. The author rightly points out that we need a comprehensive criminal justice system in order to effectively deal with crime. We can do all we can do to restrict the criminals while punishing the criminals for their wrongdoing. This book is important because it will teach you about the social aspects of criminal behavior. This book will also teach you about what a reasonable person would do under the circumstances.

Criminal Justice by Frank Schmalleger is a comprehensive book regarding criminal behavior and justice. It discusses the history of criminal behavior, the definition of criminal behavior, the courts and juries that we operate under, the concept of justice and what a reasonable person would do under the same circumstances. Most chapters are written around those factors and the author has analyzed many relevant cases in order to write this book. Criminal Justice by Frank Schmalleger is a short book and the beginning reader should have no trouble following the various arguments and analyzing the data. The author rightly claims that this is a text for the general public and not a book for a specific class or background.
