Hello all. Thanks in advance for any responses. We live in Louisiana and have a honda em5000 generator. During the hurricanes, gas has been hard to come by. Sites like motorsnorkel.com offer conversion kits to convert to natural gas. They say it's cheaper to run the gen on ng than gasoline and that the motor will last longer using ng rather than gasoline. Also, he stated that there is no de-rating using ng rather than gasoline because of the ability to fine tune and get the gen to run at the designed 3600 rpm on ng. Are these accurate statements? My concern is that some sites say life expectancy on engines is shorter using ng and second, that I need to de rate the gen while using ng. Thanks again.

I could in an emergency outage run on gasoline. Once out I could use up my propane if I had any. Then switch over to ng till power back on. Just not run as much stuff. Like elec stove or hot water tank. Great option I believe keeps freezer frozen the heat on maybe tv n a cup of coffee.

Selected this particular model since it is NOT electric start, pull start only. The ONLY reason it did not start on the first pull upon new assembly was due to choke lever not set correctly. Pulled it three times then as soon as choke was set to full, it started immediately and every time thereafter. Solid frame construction, quiet operation, everything you would expect from a "Yamaha" brand of equipment!! Only (minor complaints) 1) CO sensor VERY sensitive, shut it down quickly after startup in my garage. 2) Unable to register the unit through Yamha for warranty. Company is working to resolve this with Yamaha

I was able to get the electric start model and I am glad I did. I find that the electric choke is hard to get use to when it first start but after about a minute the generator purrs. I have two other 5000 watt generators(Coleman) and they each sound like they are twice the noise level as the Yamaha.

Well I've found a trailer that's more expensive than I anticipated but well built, and I am trying to cut corners. Rather than have them put a generator in the tack or on the hayrack, I thought maybe I could buy a portable one and just carry it in the truck bed.

I bought a Craftsman a few months back,,4000 watt and have had very good luck with it and at a price of only $1000.I do have to watch how much stuff i turn on at one time so you may want to go with the 5000 watt.I just carry it in the side compartment and unload it each time i want to use it.

Hondas peak wattage loads are rated at 30 minutes. Other lower priced generators only rate their peak loads at 30 seconds. Another good choice would be the Northern Equipments North Star 5500 watt generator with the Honda Engine. Its about half the price of the Honda generators, but about 75% as good.
