The mail alert beneath got the better of my curiosity . The simple device like Radio can bring about such a change in a country like Sudan.. But when I saw the Radio and the technology innovation at http://www.lifelineenergy.org/lifeplayer.html being powered by Solar and with hand winding with internet cum MP3 player etc , it is indeed a game changing to make the people become well informed and take decision out of informed choices.  Beyond the election alone but just related to healthcare or Agri etc etc

Just being wishful, that what is benefiting Africa like places, can surely do wonders for Indian Rural Inc also

Innovation is the need of the hour.

Just felt tempted to share

Sincerely,
SAURABH KATIYAR

Dear RK,

On Jan. 9, 2011, Southern Sudan will hold a referendum on whether or not it should remain a part of Sudan. This is an incredibly important time for residents of Southern Sudan, but many residents are getting little to no information about the process.

Join International Relief and Development's (IRD) program to bring information to rural Sudan. »

An agreement between Sudan and Southern Sudan says that at least a 60 percent voter turnout will be necessary to make the referendum valid. While voter registration is growing, residents have less and less time to register, and rural Sudanese must know where to go to do so.

IRD is bringing wind-up or solar-powered radios to villages, thereby bringing them access to critical information and empowering them to take action in the process of government.

There has been evidence of false information spreading, and even coercion and bribery to prevent people from registering to vote. If this referendum passes, it could mean many things for the future of Sudan and all residents should have their say. IRD is hoping for positive change, and wants to make sure everyone can participate.

As the Southern Sudanese wrap up their voter registration, show your support for empowering residents to participate and work toward peace. »

Thank you for taking action!
