UPDATE 12-3-2023: Just an update since so many others are interested. After replying the first time to this thread I've been going back and forth with Apple support on this issue. Eventually they had a sr. advisor call and work with me. They had me screen-record what is happening and also generate and send to them some iPad system logs captured while the issue was occurring. I was told they would send these to a software engineering team to investigate. A few day later (today) I get a callback telling me that Apple acknowledges and is aware of the issue.
Now they are working to track down the root cause (possibly more than one), address the bug, and include in a future iPadOS update as soon as they can. That could be in update 17.1.3 or it could be in a later update, it all depends on how quickly they're able to get to the root, engineer a fix, test the fix.
The one positive here is they seemed to at least acknowledge that there is a bug related to iPadOS 17 combined with the iPad Music app. As noted by someone else on this thread, Music app for other apple device operating systems (iOS, MacOS) doesn't seem to be affected. Fingers crossed for a quick solve. ??
I'm having the same exact issue, and it's November 16, now. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Music twice. I've cleared the memory in the iPad. I've done a factory reset. I've adjusted every setting in Music, from crossfade to sound check to music quality. Have tried using it both with a wired audio cable and via Bluetooth. Nothing has fixed the issue.
If I'm lucky, I can play one or two songs before it totally craps out again. I just signed up for the Family plan so we could all listen to Music but am reconsidering if I should keep subscribing to Apple Music now. It's fine for my phone, laptop, and CarPlay, but our iPad is the main device we use to stream to our stereo. It's wall-mounted and everything!
My iPad Air worked fine until today when suddenly (after working just fine for an hour) it suddenly won't connect to the internet My wi-fi still works perfectly for my laptop, and the iPad can connect with either one of its channels, but when I try to connect with a website it tells me "your iPad is not connected to the internet". I tried restarting the iPad but that didn't help.
I have literally gone insane trying to fix this problem and as stupid as it sounds it has to do with setting the clock and date accurately (or on automatic) and it works perfectly. Trust me I have gone back and forth on different forums to try and fix this problem and I was at my wits end and tried this stupid direction and my ipad now connects to the apps like magic! Hope this helps.
Thank you all for yr input, but my problem turned out to be with the VPN app I was using -- a network problem you cd say, anyway not the router. A man without a teenage geek in the house desperately needs you helpful folks on the discussion boards -- bless you!
I had the same problem with my iPad Air 2. Even though it showed I was connected to the Wi-Fi, I couldn't get internet. I would shut off Wi-Fi and turn it back on again and then I could get the internet. I would do this a few times a day and wasn't enjoying it.
Then I discovered that with my router, I had 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz access and I named them both the same. I read in the forum for the router that this would happen if you named them both the same. I renamed one of the bands differently. Then I had to forget the router access on all my devices and sign in again.
Your router may not have given your iPad a valid IP address. Go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the "i" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
Sometimes the fix can be as simple as restarting your router (remove power for 30 seconds and restart). Do not reset your router. Next, reset network settings on your iPad (Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings) and then attempt to connect. In other cases it might be necessary to update the router's firmware with the latest from the manufacturer's support web pages.
initially this did not work, but I tried to connect again, it asked for password, after entering it, it connected. I clicked info, then dhcp tab, which now showed info. I reconnected using dhcp, it worked perfectly, without prompting me for password.
That's very interesting. You used a manual IP to get on the network, then were able to switch to DHCP. Could you please tell me if you WiFi is coming direct from your main router, or if you are using either a WiFi repeater, or a WiFi access point connected to a switch (not wired directly to the router)? Your ingenious solution may resolve some long-standing problems with these configurations.
There does seem to be a systemic problem with the iPad home button. There are countless reports on the net of people who are experiencing problems with the button not working, and I'm now onto my second iPad in a row that's experiencing the same issue - when my first one stopped working I brought it to the Apple Store, who instantly replaced it without question, even though it wouldn't behave badly for me in the store. But now that new iPad is doing exactly the same thing. Symptoms are that the button works very erratically, and often not at all. It's hard to figure out if it's a hardware problem or something else. There are countless solutions proposed on the net, most of which amount to shaking a bag of bat's teeth over it. Anyone had any real success with any technique? It really seems like it's an iOS problem rather than a hardware problem, as iPhones and iPad Touches are also reporting it?
I was having problems with my iPad2 home button not working, or more often, working erratically. I tried Ram4Kid's fix and it worked perfectly, first time! Give it a try. I don't know how, but it solved my problem. Thanks!
I know this seems......silly?!? My home button doesn't/hasent worked in the past and I got it fixed. Try this. With your iPad in portrait view (long ways up and down), press and hold the home button. While continuing to hold the home button, turn the iPad to landscape view (long ways left to right), then back to portrait view. Make sure your screen rotates when you do this. Now let go of the home button. Hopefully, this is a fix to the "more common" issue in this case and resolves your problem.
I thought this was a joke and something was going to jump out of the screen at me, but tried it anywas. Ram4Kid's fix worked for me also on our iPad3. Awesome! Thank you. How do people come up with stuff like this?
I had this problem with an iPad2, purchased in May 2011. It occured at about the 8 month point. After a few weeks of increasingly erratice behavior, the home button failed completely. Apple replaced the iPad, in the store, without question. The problem occured again, in the brand new iPad, after 60 days. It appears to be a known issue. Resets and restores did not solve the problem.
I am currently using the second iPad with its home button working less and less consistently. As a workaround, I use the ACCESSIBILITY setting in Settings / General. I have it turned on. It gives me an on screen option for the home button. Should the physical button fail completely, as it did in my first iPad, this will at least give me an option to use the iPad until I take it back to the store. This is important if you want to remove confidential data before turning the iPad in for repair.
THANK YOU, Ram4Kid. I had the same problem and believe it or not, this method works. Just to add on, in my case (iPad2 with iOS6), I had to REMOVE the magnetic cover and rotate while holding the home button. I hope this helps. Thanks again.
You can try waving bats teeth over your iPad, but it really isn't a common problem and there is no system or software issue I'm aware of that causes a home button to stop working. Before you take your iPad back to Apple, try the standard trouble shooting steps......Reboot, Restore from Backup, Restore as New Device. If you need direction on any of these, let us know. But, if you do all three and your home button is still non responsive, it's likely a hardware issue and should be looked at by Apple. My houselhold has had 3 iPads and 4 iPhones over the last few years. Not one of our devices has ever experienced a home button which doesn't work.
