Dragonhawksare flying creatures native to Quel'Thalas and tamed by the blood elves of Quel'Thalas, the forest trolls of Zul'Aman and the Highvale group of high elves. They are deft predators that rend their foes with razor-sharp talons.[2] Their scales are smooth and slippery, and few have the skill to ride one without a saddle.[3] Dragonhawks are among the deadliest known predators. They are able to spot prey from great distances, rush in, and rend with both talon and beak.[4] In addition, they're capable of breathing fire.[5]

Dragonhawk riders were high elven and blood elven warriors mounted on a dragonhawk. The fierce warriors of the dragonhawk battalions were often the first into combat, picking apart the enemy ranks and surrounding enemy towers with dense fog so that reinforcements can strike unhindered by enemy defenses. The dragonhawk riders followed Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider to Outland and later to his campaign to the Frozen Throne of Icecrown.

Dragonhawks were introduced to World of Warcraft in the Burning Crusade expansion. They are seen mainly in Eversong Woods, but stronger dragonhawks are found in Tempest Keep, Zul'Aman, and Shadowmoon Valley.

Dragonhawks are very rare indeed, and they are most often seen in Eversong Woods, home of the blood elves. Beautiful creatures, dragonhawks are sought after by hunters from around the world, even though their stats rarely outshine those of more savage beasts.[7]

In Patch 2.4.0, the Isle of Quel'Danas was opened, and dragonhawks are used as the main taxi from the island to the mainland, as well as for bombing runs in the Dead Scar and on the Dawnblade flotilla off the northern coast. In Patch 2.4.3, dragonhawks also replaced the bats at the Silvermoon City and Tranquillien flight paths - which was the original intention for the Quel'Thalas flight paths (around the time when BC was just released, guards would say that the Silvermoon flight master was tending to the dragonhawks).

A rideable dragonhawk is now available as of 3.0.8 as a reward for completing the [Mountain o' Mounts] achievement, which requires the player to collect 100 different mounts. The reward is either a Blue Dragonhawk Mount for Alliance, or a Red Dragonhawk Mount for Horde. Both are 280% speed mounts.

Dragonhawks are a family of Cunning pets in World of Warcraft. Blood elf hunters start with a dragonhawk as their first pet. Dragonhawks share their special ability (although different in appearance) with the wind serpents. They, through their use of their [Fire Breath], breathe Fire on the target, increasing magic damage taken by 8% for 45 sec. This ability is very usefull for PvE. They are only found in areas that require the Burning Crusade expansion to enter.

Dragonhawks are vicious flying predators. They are swift and deft, able to crack bones and pierce hides with their mighty beaked jaws. They can be trained as aerial mounts and seem to have a particular affinity with high elves (and now blood elves), and are often trained by them. Majestic and magnificent creatures, dragonhawks and their elf riders, resplendent in lacquered dragonhide armor, make an impressive sight.

This large raptor could carry away a man - on its back, or in its talons. These hawk-like creatures are impressive. Its feathers show brilliant streaks of color on its wings and tail, but its most remarkable feature is its head, which seems like a combination of an hawk and a dragon. Its strong beak gleams wickedly. Straight, colored horns that match its plumage sprout from the beast's head.

As their name implies, dragonhawks resemble a cross between a hawk and a dragon. They look much like large hawks with dragonlike heads and a few other draconic characteristics - long neck, sleek body and large wings. Dragonhawk plumage is brown with touches of blue and red.

Swift flying unit mounted by an Elven warrior. The fierce warriors of the Dragonhawk battalions are often the first into combat, picking apart the enemy ranks and surrounding enemy towers with dense fog so that reinforcements can strike unhindered by enemy defenses. Attacks land and air units.

Dragonhawk riders are designed to counter heavy air units like Frost Wyrms and Chimaeras. To win an air battle with dragonhawks, you have to make sure you have a similar amount of dragonhawks as the enemy's air units, so you can shackle most if not all of the enemy's air units. If you are fighting an army of Gargoyles, and the enemy has twice as many gargoyles as you do dragonhawks, then you will not be able to shackle them all, and the unshackled gargoyles will be free to attack your dragonhawks and free the ones that are shackled. In these situations, it's probably better to use Flying Machines.

Dragonhawk rider's normal attack has relatively poor damage output, so it's probably not wise to use them for their normal attacks. Aerial shackle is what makes dragonhawks powerful so make sure you are using it during a fight.

One thing to note is that dragonhawk riders are much more difficult to micro than other air units, as you have to manually use aerial shackle with each dragonhawk. In big fights with lots of air units, it is easy to shackle a wrong unit or shackle the same unit several times. With that in mind, in big air battles, especially in 3v3 or 4v4 team fights, Flying Machines may be a better option simply for the fact that they are more straightforward to use.

Dragonhawk rider's Cloud ability has incredible range (1000) which is longer than that of any defensive tower. If you are going to attack into an enemy base with a lot of towers, getting a single dragonhawk just for its cloud ability could be a great investment.

This spell must be maintained by having the Dragonhawk Rider stay still while the spell is cast to get its full effect. Forcing the Dragonhawk Rider to run would cancel Aerial Shackles. The spell can be interrupted.

Dragonhawks are able predators. They prefer diving attacks, snatching prey in their talons to devour at their leisure. When trained, they readily fight in tandem with a skilled rider.[1] (LoC 190)[2] (APG 205)

The dragonhawk is the blood elf hunter's starting pet. Though hunters can respec their pet dragonhawks into Ferocity or Tenacity, they are inherently Cunning. In addition to the abilities that come standard with all pets ([Growl] and [Avoidance]) and those given to their natural or retrained specialization, all dragonhawks are given the following:

This was the original intention for the Quel'Thalas flight paths, but around the time BC was released, guards would say that the Silvermoon flight master was tending to the dragonhawks. As draenei did not receive their own special fliers (given hippogryphs instead), blood elves were originally given bats.

Dragonhawk mounts are fairly uncommon. Though they hail from Quel'Thalas and are a frequent companion of blood elves, these mounts are evenly split across the two factions. Around half of them are rewards from collections achievements.

Dragonhawk mounts first became available with patch 3.0.8, although the dragonhawk models were already rideable as early as patch 2.0.1 and flight masters in Quel'Thalas were given dragonhawk taxis with patch 2.4.

Dragonhawks have nice self synergy with Flame Breath(lasts longer) or Flamethrower(which you can't switch out of) coupled with Conflagrate. Try and use Conflagrate on a turn where you got Dragonkin racial active for some serious hurt. Silver Dragonhawk comes in three breeds. S/S with 357 speed is amongst the fastets pets short of flying, and more importantly faster than 341 Death Adders. A bit weak and squishy but if you need speed here you go.
