Hi all, Here's another short article that you may find useful.
As you may know by now, no computer program is 100% stable, its an
impossible task for a programmer to make it work all the time, the
best you can do is to do your best to make it work, and when it fails,
provide solutions to fix it.

So, with this in mind, here is one thing you can do that could fix
most problems you may encounter. From information I've received over
the years one thing that messes up from time to time is the settings
that satscape uses to allow you to customise satscape, Eg. your
favourite satellites, your latitude/longitude etc. So one sure-fire
way to fix problems with that is to do a kind of 'factory
reset' (assuming Satscape used to work when you first installed it).

Heres how to do this, the satscape settings are stored in one folder
on your hard drive, which is in a different location depending on what
operating system you have, so first locate this folder...

Windows 98 or XP : C:\Documents and settings\YOUR NAME\Satscape\
WIndows Vista or 7 : C:\Users\YOUR NAME\Satscape\
Mac/Linux : /Users/YOUR NAME/Satscape/

The most simple way is to rename the Satscape folder to 'Satscape-
backup' and then start up Satscape, it will see there is no satscape
folder, and so recreate all the default/factory settings again for you
and that should fix the problem. If it does not fix the problem,
simply rename it back so that you don't loose your settings!

Any other problems, just post them onto this thread.

Scott.

Heres another procedure which tends to fix java-related errors...

This is the same procedure for Windows XP, vista and Windows 7:
go to the windows control panel, double click on 'Java'
near the bottom-left theres a 'View..." button, click that, on the
window that opens, click 'satscape' in the list, then click the red
cross at the top of the window. Repeat this if you have another
'Satscape' in the list.
On the top-right where it says "Show : Applications" click the drop-
down list and change it to 'Resources'
if you see 'Satscape.jnlp' in that list, click that and click the red
cross.
This will clear out the java cache, forcing your PC to go get new
copies of the files.
Finally click this link : http://www.satscape.info/java/satscape/Satscape.jnlp
to install a fresh copy (this is the same link as the web site
download link)

Mac users: Spotlight > "Java preferences" will get you into the same
place mentioned above.
