Samba is a beautiful dog.  Our best boy Ben is no longer with us.  Two yrs ago we adopted another sato.  He was 6 yrs old and lived on a balcony in the projects in old San Juan.  The people at the shelter named him Low Key.  We shortened it and call him Lokie.  He is a chiwawa mix blonde in color and weighs about 18 lbs.  He is our best friend and we love him a lot.  Sorry to say I had forgotted about the Sato group.  Glad to hear all of you are doing good.  Glad that Samba brings comfort to your wife.  When my husband is sick Lokie won't leave his side.

They have a special sense. When I get stressed Samba reacts. If Molly-kitty goes out to the deck Samba herds her back in. We now live in our living room ADW sleeps on the sofa (best bed in house), I sleep in my recliner, Samba sleeps next to Dot on floor if Dot is awake, then on her sleeping pad until midnight then she curls up on her arm-chair. Samba shadows Dot around the house.  very protective of Dot if help Dot get up Samba comes over to be certain I am doing no harm. If i hug Dot Samba noses between us <g>.

Would make a great picture when we sit on sofa watching TV.Three of us in a row.

Best,
Dave

Mary,

Amber also lived on a balcony in the projects - and her owner abused her horribly!  I have pictures I took when I was there of her balcony - that place is awful.

I am so sad to hear you lost Ben.

Hi Donna,

The project where Lokie lived was across from the old docks in Old San Juan.  I have never been there so I don't have a clue what it looks like.  I do know that when we first got him and he heard police sirens and people yelling on tv he would run and look out the window.  He has a chair there and gets up on the back of it and lays down.  It is his form of a balcony only a nice one this time.  What were the projects like there?  We had out Ben for seven years and the only people he trusted were me and AL.  He was rescued from a dump at 8 months old.  He had lots of leg and joint problems.  He was our best boy.

Mary,

The projects are not far from the docks.  They are extremely low income families, and sadly drug city.  Sirens scaring Loki make sense because the police are always there for something.  When the Puerto Rican's are angry - they do yell very loudly, and very fast.  Amber cringes if she hears spanish - even now.

The projects are pretty grungy - Amber's balcony was full of pigeon poop. Her owner was a woman who beat her and threw her down the stairs.  She was petrified of me for months, but loved Gypsy and my husband.  It took her a long time to trust me - and now since I am home - she follows me everywhere.

Dumps are also common places to drop the dogs, or along back roads.  Pretty much nothing is a surprise in Puerto Rico, which is sad.

I'll send you some pictures of the projects when I get a chance - I won't send them to everyone in the forum.

Have a good night

Donna
