Hi friends!
It has been many years since I have emailed you. I miss you all and still think about our time together trying to save lives. I wanted to invite you to an event a few of us are organizing. The event will include hearing inspirational stories from those who have received bone marrow donations. I will also be sharing my story donating to a seventeen year old boy with Leukemia. This is the facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/658414958287723/
Below is the event information.
Date: Sunday January 26th
Time: 6:30pm to 9:30pm
Hosted by: Be the Cause
Let's Be the Cause! We're sharing inspirational
moments as well as hearing from those leading various social causes.
This time, we'll host bone marrow and umbilical cord blood donation donors and
recipients in the quest to treat cancer. One recipient has survived Leukemia as
a result of the treatment and will be celebrating his 5 years of remission with
us.
Come, hang out, be inspired, and learn about this amazing treatment that is
saving lives here in our own community.
Among others impacted by and supporting this cause, we'll be celebrating the
following attendees:
- Krissy Kobata was diagnosed with the blood disorder
myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) when she was 25. In December 2017, after
searching for over 10 years, Krissy underwent a life saving bone marrow
transplant. She was featured in the Mixed Match documentary which focuses on
Bone Marrow and the Umbilical Blood donation process.
- Alex Tung was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in 2014 and was given 6
months to live. He searched the bone marrow database, but couldn’t find a
match. Out of desperation, he participated in a clinical trial and received an
umbilical cord blood donation. He is now 5 years cancer free.
- Kristeen Singh donated bone marrow 9 years ago for a seventeen year old boy
with Leukemia. "I felt blessed to be given the chance to help him and
hopefully give the gift of life. I was told that the recipient was the same age
as my nephew, and I knew I would want to save my nephew, so of course I wanted
the same for this boy."

Suffering and joy teach us, if we allow them, how to make the leap of
empathy, which transports us into the soul and heart of another
person. ln those transparent moments we know other people's joys and
sorrows, and we care about their concerns as if they were our own.
