Thisis not really a space issue, I have lots, but I have nearly 1000 ebooks that I sometimes file in multiple places. (No, I don't use the dreaded Kindle thanks.) So I may download it in a "holiday reading" folder, then I may also download in the "Publishers folder" and at some point I may have reviewed it and moved it to the "author" folder and then maybe I have forgotten that I downloaded it in the "lost interest in this" folder. So there could be anywhere from 1-4 version of a book floating around.

If I search specifically by name it shows me all of the versions and then I can delete the ones that are in the "wrong" place, but I don't have the time or inclination (despite my love of procrastination by rearranging files) to search 1000 titles. So is there a simple Dropbox search function for duplicates, or do I have to download some kind of app that will do the job. Can you download file titles and locations to a spreadsheet? At least that would let me filter/sort and then go back and find the ones I want to delete.

If that's required, I don't want one that automatically deletes duplicates, I want to pick which ones are required, but if you have any recommendations of on that is easy to use and pretty much straight forward (nothing fancy required, just find the duplicates (or those that may have a similar name since sometimes they get saved with slightly different titles), I'd appreciate the help.

In addition to Bitdefender, I have had CCleaner on my laptop to remove obsolete or otherwise unnecessary if not harmful files. I have some concern that the cleaning is somewhat blunt and may result in loss of certain files I actually want to keep. My question is whether I can completely rely on Bitdefender to find and remove files I no longer should have on my laptop, or whether CCleaner or a similar program is a good supplemental tool.

You are wondering about what One Click Optimizer finds and deletes, correct? In my opinion, the optimizer tends to be light-handed at what it finds and cleans, including the registry. I don't recall a member here ever saying it deleted an important file, as it's only doing the general Windows and Browser cleanup. The View details helps to show what it will clean up, and after the optimization, you can browse the detailed report option that will be displayed. (image examples below)

You can use CCleaner for a second opinion and misc clean up as desired. Some members here use Glary Utilities as well. I tend to leave the advanced option alone in CCleaner, and just let it run with its default settings. I also routinely use Windows Disk Cleanup. I leave the registry alone in both BD and CCleaner, in which BD again tends to be more conservative, while CCleaner finds multiple keys.

CCleaner was once a best cleaner available on the web but in recent times it has lost its image when the company Piriform was bought by Avast. If you are really looking for a good cleaner with majority of cleaning benefits to keep your system free from junk then you can go in for BleachBit ( ) which is totally free.

CCleaner by default does not has winapp2.ini integrated in its product. Rather, one has to download CCEnhancer ( ) in order to add additional cleaning path of winapp2.ini to CCleaner. That being said if you download winapp2.ini for CCleaner, the software will take time to open.

Is there any concern of restarting in Safe Mode with the Pro versions of Windows 10 and 11, having Bitlocker enabled? I found that one out the hard way, of Windows 11 Pro going into a Bitlocker boot loop (recovery loop) and needed to log into another PC, go online and find my Bitlocker recovery key to be able to enter it in on the looping PC. For Pro, if I ever want to boot into safe mode, I now disable Bitlocker before I start.

The reason for restarting in safe mode is because it usually loads minimal amount of drivers as compared to general mode. So, if you will try to delete files in temporary and prefetch folder in safe mode, all files will get deleted whereas compared to general mode where some files may still remain in the respective folder since they are used by the system in real time.

If you have a backup ( / ) you can restore that folder from your backup. If you don't make backups, now would be a good time to start as you've just experienced data loss. It happens to everyone at some point or another and then we learn (hopefully) to make backups so we don't have to worry about it again.

If you can remember the name of one of the files that were in there try using a better search utility than spotlight like Find Any File oe EasyFind. Either that of type command-F and search for filenames that way. All these methods will serarch in places a standard spotlight search won't search. I only suggest searching in the unlikely chance ccleaner stuff the files away some where as opposed to deleting them.

Thanks MadisonP for the info on Backups, certainly I will take it into account. Unfortunately, all the options for Data Recovery are paid, and those lost files were not that important -fortunately, hehe- as for paid to recover them...

Perhaps a auto-updated clone is in order, I have my boot drive partitoned 50/50 and A is auto-cloned/updated to B every couple of days, plus external drive clones weekly and monthly and even one every 6 months.

Originally, it was designed to optimize PC performance. However, developers rolled out iterations for macOS and Android in 2012 and 2014, respectively. As a result, CCleaner has been downloaded more than 2 billion times and is installed on more than five million devices weekly. Then, in 2017, international cybersecurity chief Avast acquired Piriform. But first, it became a watershed for 12 months for poor reasons.

CCleaner allows you to clean up trading terminals, speed them up and free up disk space. That means fewer unnecessary IT calls for you, more productivity for your business, and longer-lasting endpoints. In addition, scheduled cleaning means PCs run at peak performance without you having to do anything.

This tool can check your folders and drives for duplicate files that you can remove. Duplicate Finder is available in CCleaner for PC and Mac and allows you to match files by name, size, modification date, and content. It can also tell you to ignore some files.

This freemium monitoring tool keeps track of junk files and notifies you where to find them. Smart cleaning follows the same rules as custom cleaning. All settings are configurable if you buy a subscription to CCleaner for PC or Mac. Then you can adjust the file size parameter.

In addition, with the paid edition, you also get access to the automatic browser cleanup. You can clear the history of one or more of your web browsers after automatically closing them with or without notification. Additionally, you can set CCleaner to prompt you to clean your browser(s) or launch the application when you close it.

A premium feature in the Android edition: Prevents programs from running in the background. And they remain disabled until you manually enable them. In short, app hibernation helps save your mobile device battery and avoid unnecessary data usage.

Avast Cleanup vs. CCleanerAvast Cleanup is the best value-for-money CCleaner to scan registry files and optimize system performance. In addition, the software comes with advanced features like automatic app updates, disk defragmentation, and bloatware removal.

Great tool for enhancing CCleaner but what if I want to revert back to its default recent cleaning rules? Do I uninstall CCleaner (with enhanced rules) & install recent version OR just install recent version on top of CCleaner (enhanced version)? Thanks fpr your time.

As for the reset, in the next version (which I might work on this weekend if I can be bothered) you will have the option of removing the custom rules. You can always install the newest version of CCleaner over the top, the rules will stay unaffected.

Thanks for your kind comment ?

Just as an FYI, because so many people are practically demanding it, I will make it much easier for you portable version guys to enhance your CCleaner in the next version, to be released shortly.

Hi Kevin, CCleaner Enhancer uses the .NET HTTPGet request, so your proxy settings should be reserved. I have no plans to add proxy settings to the tool, as it is designed to be as lightweight and small as possible.

I found something similar to this a long time ago which I think went out of development.

That too used the winapp2.ini file and having just downloaded Enhancer and updated it, it simply overwrote the existing file.

I have been waiting for some time for someone to pick this idea up again, thank you, great job.

I tried running enhancer as administrator and even allowed it through windows firewall.I have mcafee antivirus installed and i have given the full permission but it says that custom rules not present.

i am using win 7 home edition SP1.

Wow! How could I have not known about CCEnhancer before? Stumbled across this while looking into adding VLC to CCleaner. Ended up doing that and much more with barely a click.

Thanks Agent_xs & TwistedMetal for a great compliment to an already terrific app and in the spirit of CCleaner; small, efficient, effective and FREE!
