paypal problems with shipping

Hi,
I'm having some problems with the paypal payment module, and I'm
hoping someone has seen this before and can help me out.

When processing payments via paypal the tax on shipping seems to be
added twice. Also, it doesn't show a 'shipping' item in the order.

e.g.
The order summary from satchmo's success page. This was an order for
one item, $18.09:

Total
Shipping + $11.77
Tax + $2.99
Total = $32.85
Paid
10-Nov-14 15:15 Paypal - $34.03
Balance = -$1.18

As you can see, Paypal charged $34.03, $1.18 more than was required.
$1.18 is 10% of $11.77, the shipping cost.
Tax is 10%, and had already been charged on shipping.

Secondly, PayPal's receipt shows no item for shipping but does include
it in the total cost:

Subtotal $18.09 AUD
Tax $2.99 AUD
Total $34.03 AUD
Payment $34.03 AUD

Any ideas?

I can answer part of that.

Basically Paypal's API for handling shipping is utter garbage.  So we don't use it in Satchmo.  We just add a line-item for shipping and charge "$0" S&H.  Same net effect, but avoids Paypal's terrible shipping system.

Thanks Bruce. That explains much.

I still can't work out why shipping is being taxed twice.
I could switch off the 'tax shipping' option and change the shipping
amount to correct for this, but that would impact other payment
methods and would be inaccurate for invoices.

I will try digging through the paypal module for an answer, and try
capturing the request that satchmo is sending to Paypal... at the
moment I'm not sure if it's Satchmo or Paypal that is adding the extra
10%.

Hi,

I'm suffering from the same issue: tax is applied twice on the shipping cost when going to PayPal. 

The Satchmo confirmation page shows the correct amounts.

Has someone been able to fix this on their site ?
