least maintenance effort. Webfaction or VPS?

Hello everyone.
Which type of hosting would give less maintenance work? Webfaction or a VPS?
I don't mind having to do more initial work on a Webfaction account if
it will be less work on the long run.
This is for a small shop without much traffic and about 50 items for now

I did a setup of the demo with nginx on my personal VPS for practice.
I'm ready to get a another VPS or Webfaction account.
I'm doing this for a friend.

webfaction - once things are set up, there is no work. VPS you need to
monitor. I set up an account on webfaction - small one, low traffic site and did
not touch it for three years.
