Satchmo for buying memberships

I have a site with a few types of paid membership. I was planning to
use Satchmo to pay for these.

I see the following questions/challenges, and I would appreciate if
people could comment on those:

1) I don't need categories. Can I create those 6 products without a
category, and have them displayed on the front page, without any
category browser?

2) People should not be allowed to buy more than one membership in one
transaction. Therefor I also don't need a shopping cart. It should
more work like a wizard. Step 1) Enter personal details, Step 2)
Choose membership type, Step 3) Payment.

I can see two benefits from Satchmo:
1) Payment modules in place
2) Well tested, (as opposed to something I would write myself)

And the problem is then, how hard it will be for me to customize
Satchmo into what I am looking for.

I am on thin ground, so please be gentle and provide more than
hints ;) I need to know if Satchmo is the right way to go for this?
