I have to admit that I am not even a Satchmo user... much less a
developer :-)
But the reason I am writing this is that we are having a discussion on
brazilian Django group about developing a web based small bussiness
management software.
The link is here http://groups.google.com/group/django-brasil/t/c73557030b1214dd
but it's everything in Portuguese language :-)
You know all the usual stuff: sales, inventory, clients, suppliers,
reports, et cetera.
Many people in the group agree that Python and Django are a good
foundation for that job.
My intention here is ask for your advice.
Do you believe that such initiative may be a branch (or part) or even,
in any way, linked to the Satchmo project?
What could be the advantages and disadvantages of having Satchmo as a
starting point for this project?
Thank you,
Márcio Moreira

Personally, I would prefer you to link Satchmo to an existing project
like TinyERP.
http://www.tinyerp.com/
Did you have a look to it ?
A management software is a big and long project, adapting an existing
one could give faster results. But, of course, that means adopting
someone else's code...
Anyway, good evening to brasilian friends. :-)

Thank you for your advice. I am going to talk with the group about
these questions.
Greetings,
Márcio
I am really considering TinyERP except the costs to have the initial
support documentation on an Open Source project scares me a bit (on a
Brazilian economic point of view). We have a local project called stoq
wich is less robust. So, in one hand, we have a lot of localizing to
make Tiny works for us includding usability issues. In the other hand
we have a "rock" app wich any extension would be harder to implement.
So, first, if anybody have any experience with TinyERP and if can
share to help me in my decision would be appreciate (sorry for the off-
topic).
And second, since I am considering Satchmo instead creating (again) a
new online store, I want to know if Satchmo can, in near future, to be
able to integrate with other softwares, and this includes using other
product models instead of the default model (or something like this)
and other improvements that will create a fluid integration between e-
commerce and ERP. I heard about TinyERP integrations with some CMS,
but how about an e-commerce framework? Is it feasible?
Cheers,
Anderson Santos
