CORRECTED STATEMENT - SATAWU  AUTOPAX STRIKE LOOMING

The South African Transport & Allied Workers’ Union (SATAWU) members would be embarking on a strike action after acquiring a certificate from CCMA on the 20/02/2012. “ the CCMA has called us in this morning try to break the deadlock”  said Assaria Mataboge National Sector coordinator. If the talks fail, the protected strike action will start tomorrow Friday, 9 March 2012.

 

The purpose of the strike is about double drivers that are used to operate long distance trips but not paid all hours worked and overtime. CCMA has given an advisory award that was suggesting two things to parties:

 

1.      4 hours overtime per trip for such trips where two drivers are required to operate.

2.      That parties should agree about an allowance for all long distance trips.

 

We have tried to engage with the Company since September 2011 but no positive results were yielded. We therefore call upon all SATAWU members to fully engage AUTOPAX so as to exert pressure to them.
