I pray that everyone is having a great time, and able to get out and enjoy the summer months. It is a bit odd to think of it being summer back home. Here, it’s the rainy season. That means it rains just about every day, and a lot. The sun also comes out every day, which is very nice, and the rain keeps the temperature pretty cool; so it is not as bad as you would imagine. It is quite nice.
Things here are going very well. I cannot believe there are only 5 more weeks left for me here. The first two months were months of extremes. They were extremely difficult, rewarding, blessed, and brought about a great deal of change. Right now there are two of us working in the clinic. The founders have returned to the US for fundraising and some well deserved r&r.
I am only adding this part to keep everyone updated. There is NO reason for alarm, concern, worry, or anything related, simply prayer. There might be some acronyms thrown around; please just look them up online.
The LRA (the bad guys) are back in this general area of Sudan. They have begun their tactics of kid napping, looting, stealing, and many other “bad things”. We are only 2.5 miles from the actual city line of Yei, and there are restrictions on travel beyond 10 miles of the city line. I doubt any of this will make the news in the states, it might not even make the BBC right now; but just in case it does.
Now, the good part. We don’t travel much at all. For me, at most I go to town once or twice a week to buy medicine. There is a very large UN, EU, and SPLA presence in town, which is mainly why we are not concerned. We have an armed guard during the day, and two at night. Harvester’s affiliation with the EPC of Sudan makes us a poor target. Again, this is only an FYI.
Prayer Requests:
· Pray that the leaders of the LRA are finally caught and brought to justice.
· Pray for the families who have lost their children, homes, livelihood, and peace of mind.
· Pray for a friend who is leaving for Zambia to work in an orphanage there for a couple of weeks.
· Pray for a friend whose sister-in-law passed away unexpectedly, and the children who are having a difficult time.
· Pray for healing for a friend who broke their arm.
· Pray for me to be humble and accepting.
· Pray for preparation for medical school which begins at the end of August.
· Pray for friends who have begun their residency programs in new cities.
· Pray for a friend and their health issues.
· Pray for fundraising efforts for the founders of Harvester’s.
· Pray for one or two nurses to step up and come out here to work for a few months during a time no one is scheduled for.
Praises:
· Praises for a Vacation Bible School team that was here a week ago, the children had an amazing time.
· Praises for a team of builders who are back for a third time, and this time they are building a play ground for the children.
· Praises for the safe return of many folks from here to their homes.
· Praises for being reacquainted with an old friend and their patching up issues with their father.
· Praises for all of my friends starting medical, PA, nursing, and all other types of school this fall.
· Praises for all of my friends who have or will graduate, finished another year, or have accepted jobs.
I miss all of you very much. Thank you so much for all of your support. Even writing this email would not be possible without each and every one of you.
in Him,
Scott
Normally I don’t send out when I put something new out on the blog, but today’s story is just too good not too. It’s not the writing, as you will see, it is the story.
