well i finally decided that today was spring and i should go for a ride, even though there has been next to no snow all winter. so i threw in the battery and it started right up first turn. next step was checking to see if the previous owner had done the tailpipe decork and it actually wasn't performed so then i did that. and took it for a ride man what a feeling it was hard to keep that front wheel on the ground.

btw i need new tires and they don't have trakmasters in the right size and i cant remember what tires i had picked out last year any suggestions would be great but ideally i want the most aggressive tires the law will allow.

I sold Ken some very aggressive DOT tires last year (pirelli?) he
would remember. Also the stock tires (Six Days Extreme) were very
good.

You could try the Dunlop D606 like Glyn runs on his KLR. They're
pretty aggressive. The Pirelli MT21 is also pretty aggressive, but I
only ever hear of guys running them on the front. I don't know if
they make a rear tire at all, or if they do and it's just no good. I
have heard of a lot of guys running the MT21 on the front with the 606
on the rear.

Spring has sprung here in Saskatoon - the streets aren't quite clear
yet, but I anticipate that the Versys will be coming out before the
end of the week. Forecast of 15 for Thursday. Jdawg, it sounds like
you've already been that warm for a while!

The tire I got from Darrin was a Pirelli Scorpion. http://www.ktm-parts.com/03130010.html
Very aggressive tire and awesome offroad but didn't last long due to
road use. In the past I've just been using non-dot approved dirt tires
which burn up way too fast so my next tire (in the mail now) is a D606
which isn't as aggressive as the scorpion but will hopefully last a
bit longer with mixed riding. If I could restrain myself on pavement
the tires might last a bit longer but where's the fun in that?

I went out for a ride on the weekend - still lots of snow from the
dump we got last week but its melting fast.

well guys turns out you can get trakmasters for the 530 and i will go with them again. they make them in the xcr-w sizes i know they wear good and hook up good plus there cheap. since i live next to the border i have a yankee address and can get them from rockymountainmc.com for 103$ for the pair. I've also picked out this little fellow http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/44/-/176/1434/0/-/825872/110-100x18-(8-Paddle)-Sedona-Dunatik-Paddle-Tire for use in this place http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lw7VHTWCQOI&hd=1 possibly in the later part of june with a few guys from work its only 8 hrs away.

Ha! The Great Sand Hills are only about an hour and a half from you,
but if you ride there you're just asking for the mounties to
confiscate your bike. No motorized travel in the dunes.

When Andy and I were on the Great Divide Ride in 2007 we rode right
past the St. Anthony Sand Dunes. You could make a really nice ride
down and back too with the KTM if you wanted to, but I'd get a bigger
tank! They did look like an awesome place to ride, but with a loaded
KLR and DR we decided to pass them up. With my XR I'd have driven
right in!

BTW, jdawg, what does the snow level look like down there? I know you
guys got a bunch recently, but you've also been really warm lately
too. How about the dirt road and trail situation? Is it still pretty
slimy or are they fairly dry yet?

Snow is all gone. In fact it never really showed up there was maybe
one week with enough to snowmobile on and we never got the snow that
stoon did. I haven't ventured any trails yet but I'm sure they are
relatively dry. I will do a quick dirt rode ride tomorrow and check it
out as well as scout for gopher
