I was going to post a photo of my 640 weighed down with camping gear
(for 2). But can't see how to add a photo

Just put on way too many km with new wife on back - all the way
through grasslands nat park and all over the south end of sask on good
roads, bad roads, and worse roads.

She has decided the 640 isn't comfortable. I bought it when I was
single. Might have to buy a new tiger xc or something... anyone
ridden one of those yet?

Haven't ridden one, but I;d bet it's probably not much more
comfortable for the passenger than the 640. I took a good look at the
seat on the XC at Custom Cycle yesterday, and it's nothing terribly
special. If you want passenger comfort you might have to get a 1200GS
or something like that. But to be honest, I haven't found a seat that
didn't hurt my a$$ after a few hours of steady riding. When I got
back from our Manitoba TCAT ride it was a week before I could sit down
without feeling any pain (I rode my '07 KLR on that trip - 2750 km
over 5 days).

Whatever you decide, good luck. The XC is a pretty nice bike, though
the BMW F800GS is supposed to be a bit better off-road.

Oh, and unfortunately you can't post pictures to this forum. If you
want to show pics you need to put them on a photo hosting site like
Picasa or PhotoBucket and put the links to them in your post.

Hope that helps.

I haven't ridden a new Tiger yet, but I'd sure like to. I have a
Tiger 900 and it is a great bike, so I'd certainly like to compare and
see if time & technology has made the new one better. Do you do much
off-pavement stuff 2-up? If not, maybe you should consider something
more comfy for the wife like a Concours or FJR and keep the KTM for
single adventures. Personally, I can't imagine doing long distances
perched on the back of any dual-sport bike. I commend your wife for
sitting up there as long as she did.

I was looking at those new Tigers. My KLR is starting to suck back the
oil. About 1/2 litre in 3500 km. That is fully loaded in the 35C
heat and running hard though the mountains.

The $15,000 price tag is holding me back or more so my bride! I was
thinking of maybe putting a 685 kit in and ridin her for another
20,000 km. I think I can have a great bike for about a G note.

Do both, Corney! It only takes the $15000 price tag to $16000!

The Tiger looks like a nice bike, but I don't think I'd do much more
than gravel or dirt roads with it. I don't think it would perform the
way Ken makes that 990 perform off-road. He rides that thing like a
500...

Easy for you to say!  You don't have to live with the Minister of
munnitions and warfare!  She can make my life miserable or great.  I
have learnt to ride that fine line in the past 27 years with her.
