MEETING NOTIFICATION
The bi-monthly meeting of the Springfield-Area Sustainable Energy
Association (SASEA) will be on: Friday, April 20, 2012, 6-8pm. Open
to the public.
Topic: Strategic Planning Session. Help to elect board members,
redefine the mission statement and create timeline for organization’s
goals.

Mission Statement:
Providing knowledge on sustainable energy practices; both energy
conservation and renewable energy generation.
Present Goals:

To Create renewable electricity generation2012:
Create a collection of solar generating facilities that will sell its
electricity to local people. 2012
To create renewable solar thermal generation
2013: Create a program that will own solar thermal systems and sell
the generated energy to the host site. 2013
To reduce the carbon footprint of our agriculture
2012: Create solar greenhouses and dehydrators for local community
gardens. 2012
To reduce the overall energy consumption of individuals and business
Partner with CET to provide strategies to business to reduce their

Create jobs that improve the area’s sustainability 2014: create a
recycled wood to furniture wood shop. 2014
Influence policy such that sustainability is always considered 2012:
participate in area debates on zoning plan, and other sustainability
matters.

To improve recycling 2013-2015: Quantify and then double the recycling
rate within the public schools. 2013-2015
Educate kids about energy conservation & renewable generation 2012-:
Workshops with schools on solar related activities. 2012
Create incentives for greater conservation 2012: Start a program for
community woodlots to cut up storm damage timber, which becomes
available to the public, rather than chipping. 2012
Decrease the carbon footprint of our transportation 2014: Develop more
bike friendly pathways and streets. Start a bike rent program. 2014
Increase public awareness about the need for conservation 2012:
Bimonthly seminars highlighting sustainability.
2012: Start a Springfield 10% challenge to reduce your energy
consumption by 10% for the year. 2012
Create jobs, that will help increase our sustainability, for
retrained , displaced, or new workers 2013: Create a training program
for solar thermal installers, who can then install for item above.

Create local ownership of homes 2015: Start property management by
purchasing distressed property, fixing it up in a very energy
conscious way, then finding rent to own tenants. 2015
help individuals live the sustainable life they want to live. 2012:
develop consultant members that can provide sustainable consultation.
