Version 3, 06/02/94

Here's what I've got for cameos and actors in the movie (I put them in order of
appearance, as closely as I can remember):

--------------
THE HANGING:

- MEL GIBSON as Bret Maverick
- ALFRED MOLINA as Angel

Who played Angel's two henchmen?

--------------
CRYSTAL RIVER CARD GAME:

- JODIE FOSTER as Annabelle Bransford
- DUB TAYLOR watched the proceedings

Who played the cowhand, the preacher and the gunslinger (Johnny Hardin?)
in the game?

Who played the four cowboys that Bret paid to beat him up (and that
Angel later beat up)?

Who played the 2 boys who held Bret's gun during the fight?

--------------
CRYSTAL RIVER BANK:

- GEOFFREY LEWIS as Matthew Wicker (or Eugene?), bank president (from
Clay...@aol.com, leg...@unx.sas.com and Mil...@aol.com)

- The bank robbers: COREY FELDMAN, HAL KETCHUM, and DANNY GLOVER

Who played the bank teller?

--------------
THE BARGE:

- JAMES GARNER as Marshall Zane Cooper

- PAUL BRINEGAR (the trail cook "Wishbone" on RAWHIDE) as the stagecoach
driver (from U0...@WVNVM.WVNET.EDU)

--------------
The Wagon Train:

- MARGOT KIDDER (of SUPERMAN) plays the women who lost her wedding dress
and casts an amorous eye on Marshall Cooper.

- the other woman on the wagon train played Dustin Hoffman's big sister
Caroline in the movie Little Big Man. (from bla...@netcom.com)

Who played the six wagon train thieves?

Who were the other women (and men) of the wagon train?

--------------
THE INDIANS:

- GRAHAM GREENE as Chief Joseph

- VILMOS ZSIGMOND (Director of Photography) plays the artist A.
Bierstadt (sp?) at the archduke's wagon in Yosemite (from
gal...@chtm.eece.unm.edu)

- PAUL SMITH ("Bluto" in POPEYE) as the Russian archduke (I believe he
was listed in the opening credits) (from U0...@WVNVM.WVNET.EDU)?

Were there any famous faces under war paint?

--------------
On the riverboat "Lauren Belle":

NOTE: I believe there were 20 gamblers at the beginning of the tournament.

- RESTLESS HEART provides the music for the arrival of Maverick and Annabelle

- JAMES COBURN as The Commodore

- DAN HEDAYA as a gambler.

- JACK GARNER, Jim Garners brother (a regular on BRET MAVERICK as Jack
the Bartender) is the porter who comes in near the end and wants to
take the bag.

- ROBERT FULLER ("Laramie" and "Wagon Train") as a gambler.(from
da...@cleveland.Freenet.Edu)

- DOUG McCLURE ("The Virginian", "Overland Trail" and "The Men From
Shiloh") as the blond gambler (from da...@cleveland.Freenet.Edu)

- DENVER PYLE ("The Dukes of Hazzard" and "The Life and Times of Grizzly
Adams") as the old gambler who got thrown off the boat for cheating
(from da...@cleveland.Freenet.Edu and bkm...@leland.stanford.edu)

- CLINT BLACK (Beauregard) in his film debut as the younger gambler who
got thrown off the boat for cheating. (from
da...@cleveland.Freenet.Edu)

- WAYLON JENNINGS and KATHY MATTEA as the pair thrown overboard for
carrying a gun (from da...@cleveland.Freenet.Edu and
j...@images1.waterloo.NCR.COM).

- VINCE GILL as a riverboat gambler. (from the production notes). Which
one?

- RICHARD DONNER (the producer/director) did not have a cameo but his
voice was heard in the final poker game (from Mil...@aol.com)

- Mel's younger brother (anyone know his name?) has a cameo at the final
card game on the riverboat, among the 20 players; he has a ponytail,
no lines and is on the screen for only a few seconds (from
Mil...@aol.com)

- DENNIS FIMPLE (Bo, the ranch hand on TV's "Matt Houston") as the
white-haired gambler who made it to the next-to-final round. (from
leg...@unx.sas.com)

- Richard Donner's look-alike cousin STEVE KAHN (the police chief in
Lethal Weapon 1-3) was in the final card game. (from
Brad...@aol.com)

- BERT REMSEN ( "Dallas") as the elderly gambler with a cane who
Maverick beats to get into the final game. He wished Bret the best of
luck. (from U0...@WVNVM.WVNET.EDU)

- WILLIAM MARSHALL (from law...@gsusgi2.gsu.edu)

- HENRY DARROW (from j...@alpha.sunquest.com)

--------------
THE FINAL SCENE:

- LAUREN SHULER-DONNER, Richard Donner's wife, plays the bath-house
attendant in the closing scene. (from Brad...@aol.com).
gal...@chtm.eece.unm.edu noted the irony of her (a co-producer) saying
something like, "Now if you need anything else, just call me."

(Some emailers informed me that Ms. Shuler-Donner is not a producer; I
think the confusion comes from the sub text an Icon Production in
Association with Donner/Shuler-Donner Productions under the title. The
film is indeed produced by Bruce Davey and Richard Donner and
co-produced by Jim Van Wyck. Could someone clarify Ms. Shuler-Donner's
role?)

--------------
From the production notes (if anyone can tell me the characters they
played, I'd appreciate it):

- READ MORGAN (co-starred opposite Henry Fonda in "The Deputy")

- WILLIAM SMITH (roles in "7 Brides for Seven Brothers," "Laredo,"
"Rockford Files" and "Wildside")

- CAL BARTLETT (roles in "Bonanza," "The Virginian," "Barnaby Jones" and
"Little House on the Prairie," and the film "Paint Your Wagon")

- WILL HUTCHINS (star of "Sugarfoot").

- JANIS GILL (a member of the duo Sweethearts of the Rodeo).

- CARLENE CARTER as a barmaid (on the riverboat or in Crystal Springs?).

From the book, MAVERICK: LEGEND OF THE WEST by Ed Robertson:

- MICHAEL CHANE (?)

- BILL WILLIAMS (The Adventures of Kit Carson, Gunfight at the O.K.
Corral)

- CHARLES DIERKOP (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Police Woman)

- BILL HENDERSON (White Men Can't Jump, Ace Crawford, Private Eye)

- GARY FRANK ("Sons and Daughters", Family)

- STEVE LISKA (Beverly Hills Cop II, Star Trek III: The Search for
Spock)

- RICHARD BLUM (Rocky IV)

- DONALD GIBSON (?)

--------------
REPORTED SIGHTINGS (where?):

- LEO GORDON (at the first poker game? from U0...@WVNVM.WVNET.EDU)

--------------
OTHERS:

- LINDA HUNT was The Magician, but her scenes were cut.

- Gene...@aol.com says that one extras name was BOB GOODWIN (long grey
hair & beard). What role did he play?

--------------
RELATED NOTES:

- The paddle wheel tug was named the "Lauren Belle" for Richard Donner's
wife, LAUREN SHULER-DONNER.

--------------
Crystal River had such establishments as:

- Trapnell's Mercantile (Coles Trapnell was a producer for the TV
series)

- Hargrove's Hardware (Marion Hargrove was a frequent writer)

- Heyes Apothecary (Douglas Heyes was a producer)

- and the wagon train women were named Colbert (for Robert Colbert, who
played Brent Maverick in two episodes)

Can anyone confirm if these references were in the movie?

--------------
And, one movie goof that I missed and should have been obvious: A
pendulum clock on a river boat just won't work (Thanks to
Gene...@aol.com)

Any additions, corrections, or further info should be emailed to me.
