Learn how to adjust your downloads settings to get Netflix to automatically manage it for you with its Smart Downloads features, and how to manage downloads for countries with restricted licenses. For more, learn about Netflix's hidden menu or see CNET's reviews of all the streaming services

If you're familiar with using Netflix on your mobile device, you've probably noticed the dark "Download" button that sits right below "Play." Clicking that button starts a download of a local version of the movie or TV show you want.

You can download Netflix movies and TV shows on iPhone, iPad, Android and Amazon Fire devices, as well as computers with Windows 10 or 11 and some Chromebooks and Chromeboxes. Netflix downloads are set by default to only use Wi-Fi, though you can change that in your app settings.

TV shows can be downloaded individually by clicking the download icon next to each episode. On Android devices, you can download an entire season of a show by tapping the separate Download Season button next to the My List, Rate and Share links near the top of a movie or show listing.

Netflix allows you to keep a maximum of 100 downloads on as many devices as are included in your subscription plan. Each of the downloads has a different expiration date based on its content license -- some expire as early as 48 hours after you first start watching. Downloads can be renewed, but some have a limit on how many times per year. If a movie or show leaves the Netflix service, all downloads for it immediately expire.

You can delete individual movies and shows by unselecting the check box next to each title. You can remove all of your downloads by going into your App Settings and clicking "Delete all downloads" under Downloads.

A "Downloads" tab (called "My Downloads" on Windows) that sits at the bottom of the Netflix app shows you which downloads are in your library and lets you play them. It also lets you customize your download settings, such as Smart Downloads.

When turned on, Download Next Episode will automatically delete TV show episodes once you've watched them and then download the next episode in the season. It's a no-brainer for anyone who downloads TV shows, which is probably why the feature is turned on by default in Netflix apps.

Downloads for You expands the automatic downloading and deleting options for Netflix that are used in Download Next Episode. The feature is available in the iPhone, iPad and Android versions of the Netflix app, as well as some Chromebooks and Chromeboxes.

After Downloads for You is turned on, Netflix uses your viewing habits and preferences to download movies and TV shows that the service thinks you will like. Once you watch them, they're automatically deleted.

If you don't want to watch a downloaded title, you can delete it the same way you would delete downloads that you initiated manually. You can also click the icon of a square surrounded by a broken circle to cancel downloads in progress. Downloads for You only works over Wi-Fi.

Turning that feature on will then open up options for limiting how much data Netflix will automatically download for each user profile, anywhere from 0.5GB to 9.5GB. (Netflix notes that one hour of video at normal quality is about 0.25GB.)

Whether a movie or TV show can be downloaded on Netflix depends on its content license, and licenses vary from title to title. Netflix says that it tries to make as many titles available for download as possible, and when a movie or show is not downloadable it's usually because of three reasons:

In my informal survey, the titles I found mostly likely to be excluded from downloading are popular TV shows from cable or broadcast networks. "Grey's Anatomy," "Gilmore Girls" and "The Walking Dead" are three shows you can stream on Netflix, but not download.

Geographical restrictions that limit streaming titles in certain countries also apply to downloaded movies and TV shows. If you're traveling in a country where Netflix is not showing the title you downloaded, you won't be able to watch it, even though you already downloaded it in your home country.

Trying to watch a downloaded movie in a country where Netflix doesn't show it will result in an error message in the Netflix app: "Download Not Available in This Country -- Not all downloads are available to watch in every country."

VPN software that create virtual private networks can be used to get around geographical restrictions, but Netflix makes a strong effort to block VPN from working with its service. Using a VPN to bypass geo-blocking could also be considered a violation of Netflix's terms of use.

I freaking loved this show when it was on & I still do. In fact, seeing it show up on my Netflix search is the reason I decided to get a subscription. I hate that there are missing episodes. So mad. I will have to head to Amazon to purchase the series on DVD.

Thanks for this list! As I am watching the missing episodes on youtube, I am noting these episodes all have cast members singing parts of songs as part of the plot. Very difficult to fix I imagine without butchering the scenes. The rest of the episodes are now on Hulu instead of Netflix, btw.

Go to CBS.com under TV classics and there are always a few Wings episodes available free - you don't have to get the CBS All Access trial. It's not much, but at least it's something that will give you your Wings fix.

Nope Netflix dropped wings and coach however you can still watch wings on huluplus I'm re watching and coinsedently I'm in bed watching lol.. Same eps are missing but at least we can watch most! Still sad about Coach tho ?

I loved Wings back in the 90's! I think it's one of the most underrated shows of all time. The chemistry between the characters was excellent. I want to buy the entire series on DVD but it hasn't been updated and the set doesn't include any extras of any kind. I wish they would update it to Blueray maybe do some interviews with cast members etc.

Thanks for the info! I'm watching Wings on Prime right now and realized there were missing episodes after watching the high school reunion ep when the lady Brian was seeing told Joe that her kid might be his and then it was not continued in the next ep I watched!

I thought I was only one who watched these to go to sleep; funny, looks like Im not alone. I agree, very underrated TV show and they tie in with each other across seasons. One of my favorite episodes was the Clint Black guest star, found this post and explains why it is not on HULU. Didnt realize so many were missing.

@anonymous Edgy? Talking opening about sex? Wings barely talked about sex, and certainly no more than other shows of the time. Hell, Cheers had a main character talking about sex in 1982. Also, a gay character in a sitcom episode? M*A*S*H did that in 1974.

Wings was extremely MOR and safe. It didn't push a single boundary. It wasn't that kind of show.

Longtime viewers will be able to recognise the threads of the original story throughout the latest series, in addition to beloved characters like Katara (Kiawentiio), Sokka (Ian Ousley), and Prince Zuko (Dallas James Liu). There are also stunning details that recreate what people admired so much about the animated series, like the Omashu market, the costumes, and Kyoshi Island, among plenty of Easter eggs, hidden references, and subtle throwbacks.

The opening episode of the live-action series is, of course, all about Aang. But it begins in the past, combining events from animated series eps "The Avatar and the Fire Lord" and "The Southern Air Temple." The former is a flashback episode in Season 3 that covers the start of the war with Fire Lord Azulon and the genocide of the Air Nomads, and the latter is a Season 1 ep that sees Katara, Aang, and Sokka visiting the Southern Air Temple a hundred years later. This includes flashbacks to Aang's friendship with Monk Gyatso (Lim Kay Siu), and his big moment entering the Avatar state in his grief over his friend's fate.

In the second episode, we get to meet the kick-ass Kyoshi Warriors, which are introduced in episode 4 of the animated series. In both, the gang find their way to Kyoshi Island, where the residents honor the Avatar Kyoshi, where Sokka gets a big ol' crush on warrior Suki (Maria Zhang), and where the Fire Nation tracks the gang down. In the animated episode, there's a couple of differences. It's Zuko who storms into the village on the Avatar's trail, not Commander Zhao (Ken Leung) though he's introduced in this ep. Aang fights the Fire Nation in his own form, not as the formidable Avatar Kyoshi (though Aang does dress up as Kyoshi in Season 2's "Avatar Day").

"Warriors" also focuses on Katara's waterbending journey, as she finds a scroll in her bag giving tutelage in the art. In the live-action series, Katara's grandmother Kanna has hidden it there; in the animated episode "The Waterbending Scroll," Katara finds the scroll in a pirate's junk shop.

No surprises here: The third episode covers a lot of "The King of Omashu," the fifth episode of Season 1 introducing the Earth Kingdom city and its chaotic, pun-making king, Bumi. It also combines some of the best episodes of the animated series, including "Jet" and "The Northern Air Temple."

Episode 10 of the animated series, "Jet," brings the roguish teen and his band of freedom fighters into the Omashu storyline. In the Netflix series, Jet (Sebastian Amoruso) helps Aang, Katara, and Sokka get past the gates of Omashu; in the animated series, they meet in the forest and accidentally stumble into a Fire Nation camp. However, it's only Katara that gets to meet the rest of the gang in their hideout in the live-action series.

The episode also covers "The Northern Air Temple," which introduces the characters Teo (Lucian-River Chauhan) and his father Sai (Danny Pudi), a machinist who didn't actually have a name in the animated series beyond his vocation. In the live-action series, Sai is liaising with the Fire Nation to stop them from attacking the city of Omashu; in the animated series, he's supplying the Fire Nation with weapons to protect Earth Kingdom villagers living in the Northern Air Temple.
