For the record, I am the Rufus developer and, I am not seeing any download issue in Rufus (or reports of download issues) with the latest Ubuntu 18.10 ISO, so I strongly suspect the issue is with your environment. Especially, if your system's SSL libraries are not up to date (which is a common issue on Windows 7, less so on Windows 8 or later), you may not be able to download the files over HTTPS (whereas Rufus 2.18 downloads the files over HTTP).

Furthermore, considering that the HTTP URLs that Rufus 2.18 used to download files are no longer valid, I suspect that the reason why you find that Rufus 2.18 "works" is simply because you used that version before the HTTP download links were removed, and a copy of the required files still exist in the rufus_files\ folder you should see in the same location as the Rufus application. Either that or you chose to create the drive in GPT/UEFI mode in 2.18, in which cases the files don't need to be downloaded.

Either way, I'm afraid it's just impossible to address your issue unless your report it through the proper channels and provide a full log of what you did, so that we can see why the downloads failed.

If the download feature in Rufus 3.5+ doesn't work, download the Ubuntu .iso file manually from the official ubuntu.com website, and then browse in Rufus to the Ubuntu .iso file that you downloaded instead of downloading it from Rufus.

In Ubuntu, there is a built-in terminal program named wget that allows the user to resume interrupted downloads from the same place where the download was interrupted without needing to download the whole file again from the beginning. There are also web browser extensions and download managers for Windows that have a resume interrupted downloads feature.

I'm having trouble installing Ubuntu Server 16.04 LTS on a hardware RAID-1 setup on a new Dell PowerEdge R330 Server. I'm using a bootable USB made by Rufus-2.18.(I'm a newb to server setups, so please excuse me for anything ignorant I missed or did)The server has 2 480GB SATA SSD hard drives.

The first thing I did was go into the PERC S130 BIOS Utility, delete all existing virtual disks, and then make a new virtual disk consisting of both hard drives in RAID-1. When I did this, the Utility showed one line in the Virtual Disks that looked like "1-RAID1, 447GB, Ready".

Then, I went to the System BIOS Boot settings (I pressed F2) and I changed the hard-disk drive sequence to launch from USB first, and then the "Embedded RAID Controller 1". (The USB was already plugged in to the back of the server in one of the USB ports).

Next, I rebooted the server. The server began running Ubuntu Server setup as usual. However, when it came to the screen about disk partitioning (I picked "Guided Partitioning with LVM"), it still showed both hard drives. This confused me, because I figured Ubuntu should only be able to "see" one hard drive, which would be the virtual disk created by the RAID controller.

Not really knowing why this was happening, I went with the sda drive and continued. I eventually got to the GRUB bootloader install screen and, again, it showed both hard drives (which I guess is expected since Ubuntu recognized both drives from before). [Note in the image below, the bootable USB is plugged into the back of the server]

When Ubuntu finished setting up and the server rebooted, I went back to the PERC S130 BIOS Utility and it now showed the original virtual disk as degraded. There was a new virtual disk too that consisted of only the first hard drive, which I'm guessing Ubuntu made. (Obviously I'm guessing this is a byproduct of the above installation on sda).

I'm stuck on how to get Ubuntu to see the virtual disk and thus install "onto the RAID controller", which would do the hardware RAID-1 stuff for me. I don't want to do software RAID since I'm pretty sure this server has hardware RAID.

The S130 is a software RAID solution that needs OS drivers to support it. I believe that it is only supported by Windows OS and according to this RHEL7.2/SLES11/SLES12. This is why your Ubuntu is seenig the disks as JBOD.

We recommend using Rufus version 2.18 for the most reliable install process. You can find every Rufus version by clicking Other Versions from the main Rufus page. The following link provides a direct download to version 2.18:

Select the partition where OT Link Platform will be installed and then select OK.
Note: This list is device-specific. Typically, the installation location is sda.

If the device/Converged edge system has embedded MMC (eMMC) components, the partition name may be listed as mmcblk instead of sda. Please make sure you select the correct hard-drive location.

A second verification ensures that you are overwriting the correct device partition during the formatting process. Select Yes to continue formating the device and installing the operating system.

These instructions are applicable for devices that do not have a VGA that will render the graphics used in the installer. Serial devices may not render graphics correctly and therefore require a text-only interface.

I'd like to fetch the Program Name of an Application using cmd but I don't know how should I do it, for example I have this application with a filename of Rufus v2.14.exe and I want to get its Program Name which is Rufus only using this wmic datafile where name='c:\\users\\username\\desktop\\rufus v2.14.exe' get name batch file code, but the result is not that what I think of, it gives me this result c:\users\username\desktop\rufus.exe 2.14 which is still the same name. Any help?

I've been running OMV now for about 2 years after coming over from FreeNAS. I had a power loss this evening which knocked down my network and my OMVnas. I rebooted everything and it all came back except OMVnas. I've attached a screenshot of what happens.

I have done a forum search and found the subjects I added as tags for this post. I can type on the NAS but nothing happens, I cannot access the web interface. I have downloaded ubuntu 16.04.3 desktop amd64 lts and created an bootable USB using rufus 2.18.

I have also attached the network connection info from the live ubuntu environemnt. To me this looks like it should work. If I don't hear anything I'm planning to rename the interfaces file .old and see if the system recreates a new version on restart.

It should be getting a dhcp address as there is a static assignment in my firewall, but that said even if it didn't get an address why would that prevent it from going past that point and allowing access to the login prompt? The ANC.jpg is from the same pc with a livecd boot to check all the hardware is working.

I would love to try omv-firstaid but I can't try omv-firstaid if I can't access the command line. Any thoughts on how to get there? I have tried ctrl alt F2 all I get is a black screen with a flashing cursor and then can't get back with ctrl alt F7.

I've attached a picture showing it gets an ip address, its at this point the boot stops. I have used putty to try to ssh to 192.162.75.247 I get "PuTTY Fatal Error - network error connection refused" which is not ideal

If I turn off ipv6 forwarding on my firewall (as a test) would that have the same effect or do I need to remove the entries? I will try turning ipv6 off tomorrow reboot and see if it works I will edit the entries and remove it then reenabvle ipv6 forwarding in my firewall.

I've finally had some time to do the work. I decided to get a spare hard drive and reinstall OMVnas. I disconnected power from all drive except the new one and installed. Did all the updates and then shutdown and reconnected power to my raid drives.

Hi
Not an error. asking permission to go online, what a well-behaved rufus. it is normal.
press Yes for success. after the rufus application is upgraded to current.
another thing that is normal is for rufus to offer to upgrade to the latest version when it is run; first it advises of updates available. So i am guessing that you are on a pc from eight years ago that is not online?
get the recent rufus verson to succeeed with the recent antiX iso.

The specific reason I needed a new OS was because my old unsupported Leeenux OS would not install PuTTY ver 0.74 to replace ver 0.67. I even tried to build from source.
I now have PuTTY ver 0.74 installed and running under antiX. All good.

Hi
I have succeeded, but not with Rufus and the antiX website instructions.
I suggest someone else tries the same procedure. Download antiX and try using Rufus to create a USB stick bootable disk. If what I see is not unique, then remove the references to Rufus from the website, until a fix is done.

Another method I find very useful. EtchDroid USB writer
Requires a reasonably powerful Android Phone.
But not Samsung with OneUI 3.0+, recent Huawei and OnePlus devices
which tend to hang.

Download from FDroid, is very useful to create a bootable linux USB Stick.
Got me out of trouble a couple of times.

When it comes to creating bootable USB drives on Windows, including for the outdated Windows XP and Windows Vista, look no further than Rufus. This versatile tool provides all the essential features needed to install an OS image on a flash drive and run it from a USB dongle, allowing users to easily install or run the Live version of the system.

Download Rufus 2.18 for Windows XP and Windows Vista. For newer Windows systems use instead the download link for Rufus 4.3. The latest version supports Microsoft Windows 8, Windows 10, or Windows 11. It did drop support for Windows XP and Windows Vista.
