Hello,

I do work in an organzation which does not have Jabber.
So it is not easily possible to get a Jabber server.

As Saros is based solely on Jabber, this means I cannot use Saros for the lack of a company Jabber server (we wouldn't like to set one up either).

My question is: is the architecture of Saros flexible enough to support other messaging protocols like Skype? (I don't know whether Skype offers a suitable API, but if it doesn't maybe RocketChat or MS Teams could do the job as well).

Best regards,

Hi Björn,

Currently, Saros does not support any other network protocol and the architecture is not set up to accommodate this either as far as I know. (We have discussed adjusting the architecture to include an abstraction for the protocol as this is sensible anyways. This would allow us to also add other protocols. But it is still a long way off.)

Is the issue that the server has to be hosted company-internally? Because otherwise you could use our XMPP server 'saros-con.imp.fu-berlin.de' (or other any freely available Jabber server).

Best regards,
Tobias

Hi Björn,

or consider the possibility of running an XMPP server just for a single Saros session on your development machine.
