Can anyone advise how best to buy a replacement battery? Is there an equivalent in europe?  After 4 years or so my one is down to about half capacity so maybe time for a change. No results from searching the web.

Hi John.    It was mentioned on here a few months ago that Seeed were doing a replacement, however, a search of their website shows all of the LiPo etc. batteries are discontinued.  Mouser, who are a Seeed agent, show one battery on restricted access with no price, so I guess they don’t have any.

What is the chemistry of the original battery?

Any ideas, Melchor, or anyone?

I think I may be able to help with the battery replacement, I sourced and managed to replace my Sark 110 battery, fortunately I had a contact in the battery industry who provided it for free. I told him that there may well be a market for them soon as my battery died and I could not locate a replacement in the EU and China had problems shipping via airmail.

The replacement was a Renata Batteries ICP543759PMT, I had to cut the lead off the original and solder it on to the replacement ensuring it was well with heat shrink sleeve. it was very slightly thicker than the original battery but it fitted the space comfortably without any pressure.

I got it from a gentleman called Bernard Rogers, his company details are as follows.

I really hope this helps, the Sark 110 it a great bit of ham kit.

Carl,
Many thanks. Unfortunately they are out of stock as well. Useful information though that the case will take a slightly thicker battery (5.95mm) so I will keep looking.

That is indeed useful to know that a 5.9mm thick battery will fit in the case, Carl.  The battery is fairly expensive, especially from Amazon, but if you're into cheap and Chinese, here's a battery of similar dimensions, but only 5mm thick.  The Renata is probably made in China, too but hopefully to a better standard.

For $9, it's worth a try.  I'll keep trawling to see if there's anything with a connector on it, but there are so many different types, it's probably easier to join cables and sleeve them or, if you have it, use a couple of coats of liquid tape.  It's tough stuff.

I've had a root around and have ordered a couple of higher capacity batteries for evaluation.  After sorting out the best fit and best replacement method, I'll get some in stock so I can offer a battery replacement service here in the UK.

I also stock some common components for typical repairs of damaged front ends, typically caused by static or accidental transmission together with some switches and MCX input sockets etc.  This will enable me to offer economical repairs to owners here in the UK.  It is intended that these components are for me to make repairs to SARK-110s and will not be a parts supply only service.  Melchor is fully aware of my intentions and is pleased that I'm offering a repair service to owners.

My website at www.g3tjp.com is in process of being updated but I'm reliant upon a webmaster who has extreme life pressures just now, so it may take a while to complete.  One important update is due to Brexit and the devaluation of the £.  This means the price of loadsets has increased to £40 as most of my component prices are based on the $.  A big increase for those whose currency is the £ but only a very small increase for $ users or any other currency that has maintained parity with the $.

Any enquiries can be made to SAR...@G3TJP.COM

Hi Dave,

It would be a good service to offer as I am sure that by now some of those batteries will need changing if they have not been kept topped up, mine just would not hold a charge at all.

Renata make the batteries in Switzerland so I would feel comfortable about paying a little extra for quality, much like I did when I bought a set of your calibration loads which I felt was a worthwhile investment.
