I have a 12 conductor 24 gauge control cable to my steppir antenna. One lead of a pair is open somewhere in 100 feet of the cable. Is Cable test mode able to measure a single twisted pair for the distance to the open?
If anyone has done this please enlighten me.

Thanks.

Neil,
I should be possible IF you have some idea what the Vp (velocity of propagation) is for a  similar twisted pair.  OR, If you know what length of cable you have  (100 ft), you might get a pretty good estimate by measuring the length of another similar pair in the cable (with the SARK 110) and comparing the measured length ( with the SARK 11O ) of the broken pair to the measured length of the whole cable.
(length of open pair / length of whole cable) X length of cable in ft =  should be the distance to the break from the measurement end.   It should be close!

Note: The distance to the stepper element connection should show up as an impedance bump but may not be as sharp as an open wire end.

Thanks for the info. I will give it a try.  In cable test mode, it shows only coax, is there another setting i am missing ? Today messing around with the cable has caused the open to now close. I have a suspicion where the intermittent might be but will use the Sark when it opens again.

Neil,
In the 'SETUP' go to 'Cable Type.'   Scroll through the long list of cable types.  There are all kinds of cable types listed including UTP Category 3, 5E and 6 types.  One of them should be close.   But really you don't have to have the exact cable characteristics if you use the ratio method I suggested as long as the pair type is similar.
