Looking for solutions to this problem has been driving me up the wall. It used to work sometimes when I restarted my computer, but for the past 6 months it hasn't recognized the printer at all. Can anybody tell me how to permanently fix this? I'd appreciate any help.
I tried both those solutions and was still getting the same error message. What finally worked was upgrading my OS from El Capitan to macOS Sierra, which I didn't want to do at the risk of making some of my software uncompatible. But at least my printer works now. I hope this helps some other poor soul out there.
I understand that you have an HP LaserJet Pro P1102 Printer and is connected via USB to your Mac computer. I read that the printer stopped printing. A message appears stating "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." Downloading new drivers is not working because there isn't any printer to select for this step.
I did some research and found that there are no full-featured printer drivers available for Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan and that could be the reason the drivers are not getting installed. However, I have a workaround for this. Let us try to install the printer drivers through an Apple update and that should help.
The printer does work on Windows, but I really need to install this on my Mac. I downloaded and installed the driver in your link. But like before, there are no printers listed when I click the plus sign in System Preferences.
I understand that you have an HP LaserJet Pro P1102 Printer and would like to use it with Win10. I read that you would like to know if you could use an equivalent driver instead of this printer as it is absent in the drop down.
Meanwhile, I did some research and located the Win10 drivers and would recommend you to install them. This way you do no thave to use an alternate driver. You may download and install the Win10 compatible drivers from this link.
I have just brought new laptop with Window10. Tried very hard many times to install the drivers for Laserjet P1102. Downloaded the driver so many times. After clicking to execute, it ask if I allow the HP software to make changes to my laptop, which I answer "yes". But nothing happens after that. So many times. Triedto use HP Print scan Doctor to diagnose. Also use HP Easy Start. It points me to download the driver, which is useless, as I explained in the first few lines. I guess HP do not want spend resoures to update the drivers anymore. Disappointed. So, have to spend money to buy a new printer. Will look beyond HP.

Must have downloaded more than 10 times and tried launch it. As I explained, after clicking "yes" to allow the HP driver to make changes to my device, nothing happens. I note the the driver was 2016 update? So, really out of sync with the times, and HP not spending resources to upgrade.
Downloaded the driver maybe like over 10 times. As I explained above, not sure if you have read the post in full. After downloading, the driver software asked if it is allowed to make changes to my device. After clicking "yes", nothng happens. Tried that for umpteen times, restarted my laptop.
I note that the driver is 2016 version, so guess HP not willing to put upgrade the driver. I have two P1102 printers, one in home and one in office. Guess it is a write off now and throw it away. HP will not support it any more.
The Keynote will be available to stream on apple.com, the Apple Developer app, the Apple TV app, and the Apple YouTube channel. On-demand playback will be available after the conclusion of the stream.
HP LaserJet Pro P1102 (USB only): If the 5.1 driver package from the HP support page for this model does not work, there is an updated HP 5.1.1 Printer Software Update download from Apple. It is true that even the System Requirements for the latter download say Not compatible with macOS v12 and newer, but some reports have indicated successful use with macOS 12 versions anyway. So, something like the HP LaserJet Professional P1100 driver (6.9) mentioned in Printer and scanner drivers for Mac - Apple Support could perhaps be worth a try. It may or may not work/install in this case. Look upon it as an experiment. Make sure that you have backup copies of all important files (documents, photos, et cetera) before testing anything.
In the event that your printer is an HP LaserJet Pro P1102w (wireless and USB): This model is not mentioned in About AirPrint - Apple Support (US edition, February 18, 2022), but an HP LaserJet P1102w Printer was listed as an AirPrint-supported model in an old (February 13. 2012) iOS: AirPrint 101 Apple article (HT4356). Possibly an early firmware version? A firmware update may be required. There have been printer firmware updates made available via the HP download pages for the HP LaserJet P1102w Printer (but these files will be shown only if macOS 10.14 or earlier is selected).
If the driverless AirPrint technology would work with this printer, one should not have to install drivers from the manufacturer, provided that the printer and the MacBook Air are connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router).
So, I've installed every possible thing for printer, started cups in browser, added my printer etc.
But under administration tab, where I need to enter a connection with provided examples, I get lost completely:
OK, I got it running by providing socket://myhostname in connection field.
But now when I try to print a page it simply says "printer is busy" and that's it, nothing more.
(I connect my laserjet via usb cable by the way)
