The Texas Historical Records Advisory Board (THRAB) has announced that it is now accepting applications from managers in Texas archival institutions for a free October workshop offered by the Society of American Archivists (SAA) on the topic of “Finance Basics for Archives Managers.”

THRAB has received funding from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) to provide free registration for this course during Texas Archives Month, observed every October.

SAA will provide attendees with information essential to understanding basic financial functions and processes, resource allocation, and planning and communication with colleagues and stakeholders regarding financial decision-making. The workshop will focus on daily fiscal management and budget-building for archival managers with budget responsibilities or those working toward such positions in the next two years. Archivists, librarians, staff and managers who provide any type of information services are encouraged to apply.

“Most archivists and librarians receive little formal training in financial management. This course provides basic knowledge and skills needed for an archivist to become a confident financial manager,” said Jelain Chubb, THRAB Coordinator and State Archivist. “THRAB is pleased to be able to offer this scholarship opportunity so that more archival managers across the state have the opportunity to attend and develop their skills in this area.”

The deadline to apply is Sept. 13. Course materials will be available starting Oct. 1, with completion required by the end of the month. For more information and to apply, visit https://bit.ly/THRAB_SAA24.
