_______
Dear Colleagues,
We’re reaching out from the FOCAS (Faculty Organizing for Community Archives Support) project, a collaboration of archivists, scholars, and MLIS students across nine institutions in the U.S. and Canada who are committed to supporting community-based archives. As part of our work, we are building a community archives map to highlight and connect the work of community archives across North America. The map will amplify the visibility of archives led by and for BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, disabled, and other historically marginalized communities. We’d love to include your archive!
You can fill out our short form here:
https://bit.ly/mappingFOCAS. For the purpose of this project, we request your response by July 15th. A first version of this map is scheduled to go live on 15 August 2025!
Please also share this invitation with others in your networks who may want to add their archives to the map.
The information you provide will be used for research and educational purposes as part of the FOCAS project. Only the details archives explicitly consented to share publicly will appear on the map. Any additional information will be stored securely and used internally to help us better understand the landscape of community archives.
If you have any questions or would like to connect with us before submitting, feel free to email us at
focascoll...@gmail.com. Thank you for your work and for helping us build a resource that reflects the importance of community archives.
With gratitude,
The FOCAS Mapping Project Team
