Sardine within Android

I tried Sardine with Android (2.3).
Many dependencies aren't solved without the libraries that come with
Sardine, e.g. httpclient-4.1.1.
But these new libraries conflict with the android base library, so dx
complains massively when building the Android project.
Did anyone try and find a solution for this? Any hints out there?

If it is compatible with Android, I'd be interested in replacing httpclient with https://github.com/sonatype/async-http-client
