Aarohan, NITd need no such introductions among those acquainted with
the college. It has been brandished long enough as the second biggest
techno management fest in eastern India.. For a while it seemed that
this was put across as a somewhat proud statement. But, its good to
see that now, we have raised our game and are truly looking beyond the
horizon in making Aarohan 2011, an event of national proportions.
Stepping into its 9th year, the inauguration was marked off by Prof.
AK. Mitra, who was attending his last Aarohan as a Professor of the
institute, other luminaries of the college as well as esteemed guests
like Dr. Anil Kane, the President of the world wind energy
association. Perhaps, to mark the occasion, a huge balloon ,
emblazoned with 'Aarohan' flew aloft.. and a crescendo of firecrackers
made the auspicious inauguration. Deja Vu, the official college
newsletter was released(pdf to be uploaded soon), and has set the
stage for Cognito, the technical magazine of the college, to be
released at the valedictory.
There were a spate of workshops and guest lectures, ranging in topics
from entrepreneurship, green energy, water rocketry to one by the
Padma Shree winning founder of SPIC MACAY, the most fervent
contributor of classical arts in schools and colleges-Dr. Kiran Seth.
The other lecturers were Dr. PS Gopinath,
Dr. AD Karve, Dr. Rohit Karnik and Sramana Mitra
The most notable enthusiasm could be seen associated with the
technical paper presentation contest of Abhivyakti. The innovation and
professionalism demonstrated by the participants was incredible. The
robotics events also saw the enthusiasts draw out their gears and
screws, QuizInc outdid themselves, right after the success of the
Quizzitch cup at Mukti. Exquizzit, organized by them, saw
unprecedented participation from teams from both within and outside
the college. Ultimately, a team of mature(read 40year old hardcore
professionals) quizzers took home the coveted prize of being the
best.I guess thats why they say, never send a boy to do a man's job!
War of the words ushered in a welcome return of debating in the
college.
On the whole, Aarohan 2011 has set the standards, as far as future
Aarohans in the college are concerned. Hoping CCA can grow the good
and chuck out the failing by next year and make it even bigger.
PS. Monday doesn't seem to be a holiday, so that seems to be a
dampener on the final day proceedings. But, we can but still hope!
PPS. The above was an unofficial 2nd person account of Aarohan 2011.
